Red face after exercise
I know this is probably a stupid question but how long should your face stay all red for after exercise?
I've always stayed quite red for quite a long time (in primary school my nickname was "beetroot"!) but is this because I've always been really unfit or does it just differ between people?
I'm not really complaining because I suit the rosey faced look, just curious!
It varies for me - I remember I used to get very beet red during exercise, now not as much, except when I'm doing stuff that requires me to bend over (burpees, etc).
I don't think it necessarily means that you are unfit, but you'll find out as you start getting fitter!
No matter how much or how often I run, if I push myself, my face will look like a tomato and sadly it will last for a long, long time (30 minutes or more). If I really, really push myself, I can look almost purple! I just get pink during cardio classes, it's usually running that does it. I like to think that I'm in decent shape. It's always been a problem for me. :/
Make sure you focus on your breathing. My coaches in school recommended deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth, to prevent that stomach "stitch."
I find that the more I exercise, the more it takes for the redness to appear, and the quicker it goes away.
I like to go for long walks, but when its cold my nose goes red instead lol my nickname at school was rudolph lol
Me too .. when I first started working out and was very out of shape ... my face used to get so red the gym management kept asking me if I was OK. It got better as I got fitter .. less red, takes more to go red, and goes away faster. Breathing deeper helps - make sure you are not holding your breath, particularly when doing crunches.
^what scale beater said. I had a pretty red face when I started working out, now its just a pretty flushed look.
I still get all red lol. It just varies person to person I think. Though it goes away more quickly now, because it's easier for me to catch my breath now.
I was maroon after my half marathon even though I wasn't that exhausted! I get red faced, I always have and used to be quite self conscious in grammar school. My husband thinks its cute so I'm ok with it. I keep telling myself the blood flows to the face to keep it young;)
Since I have the same problem when I sing, and find I'm bad to hold my breath when I'm nervous, lol... I believe breathing correctly does help... ![]()
If I'm relaxed and remember to breathe, lol!-- I don't feel the bright red tomato face afterward... ![]()
I find breathing instructions difficult to grasp when I exercise, too, if I'm exerting myself... Probably why it's part of the instructions we hear so often... ![]()
My face has always gotten bright pink from exercise, although I have found that it's gotten a bit better after a 1+ years of fairly regular running. I used to be self-conscious, but now I look at it this way: I'd rather be red-faced at the gym than red-faced in a social setting because I'm overweight!
