Redefine the Lounge?

Quote  |  Reply

In light of recent developments, I think it may be time to clarify the purpose of the lounge forum to something like:

Put up your feet and talk about whatever's on your mind walk on eggshells around the over-sensitive members in fear that you will someday amass 19 flags.

Recommended subjects of discussion include:

The weather.

Lollipops.

Rainbows (no gay reference intended - no "pot-stirring" will be permitted here).

Puppies.

The weather should probably be a no-no also.  That might lead to talk about climate change and then there might be *gasp* disagreements!

lillipops or lollipops?

class_matters, I think I am going to have to flag you. Your icon has a rainbow, which reminds me of gayness, which I don't agree with.

What about kittens? They're cute too.

No no no.  Then we'd get into the "which is better: cat or dog" debate.

Can't have that.

umm... you might have to delete the lollipops too... 'cause you don't want to have arguments about how many licks it takes to get to it's center.

now THAT is a fight just waiting to happen!!!

Took me 237!

Clearly a reference to yiffers and furries.

Ergo, you're a deviant, and must be punished in the name of homogeneity.

On the plus side, when you come out of your reeducation camp, you'll get a lovely Saint Palin "I can see Russia from my house" commemorative mug filled with the blood of a forest critter of your choice.

You know...

Not a single one of you has bothered to put any faith in the mods. Would it surprise any of you to know that you don't have the whole story, that maybe not everybody mentions the 100 posts the mods DID delete because they were over the line, not OK with the posting guidelines?

No one understand what the moderators have to deal with every day but the moderators, so everyone gets all up in their face when they do their job.

But I'll give you all an inkling of a hint.

Each day, the moderators are tasked with keeping order on these boards, which means dealing with trolls, flame wars and general assholiness. Even the nicest amongst us can turn into a flaming **** when they get too close to something they care deeply about, such as politics, abortions, religions, etc. They don't get many thanks for their actions, instead constantly getting flamed in threads like this and, oh yeah, they don't get paid either. They do this because they believe in CC and they want to give back to a community that they felt gave to them.

So... seriously, time to put the rage back in a cage and ask yourself this:

What did I miss? What aren't the Mods saying?

The answer is... a whole lot more than you realize.

PS: You know, for every post the mods lock or delete, there's a metric ton more that aren't.

Thank you HK

Also, when a post is moderated in any way, that member received an email with the reason clearly stated.  Any post that is deleted is found to have violated the posting guidelines or terms of service.  When a post is deleted, you can't go back and read it, so any of you going back over the member's posting history will not see the most agregious violations.  We let a lot more slide than we moderate.

To those of you accusing other members of being overly sensitive, I ask a question.  Aren't you acting that way too?

hkellick, I think this is less about the mods (well, it is for me, I like the mods Smile) and more about the crybabies who can't listen to an opinion that is not their own or advice that they don't want to hear.  It is these people that increase the mods' work.  I know that there are times when notifying the mods is warranted, but I think it might get abused by really immature people.  In the case of pg, Igor himself said that she never broke the rules, so it sounds like the problem is with the other people.  I am not saying that pg can't be inflammatory (we all know that would be a lie), but I think people need to chill and grow up a bit (which would, incidentally, cut down the work the mods need to do).

*feels this big*

You know what hk, you're right, 10000%.   I assumed that this was about the people in here (CC) being overly sensitive.  Only after poking around the threads a little more, did I realize what this was truely about.... which is pg's leaving.

Bravo to you, as a former moderator and knowing the stresses of their thankless job and for sticking up for the hard work that they do for CC daily!!  I am friends with a few of the moderators here on CC... and I'm not talking about just random people I added to my 'friends list'.  I mean personally... I've come close to a few of the moderators here (you guys know who you are) and to think that I have belittled them (unintentionally) makes me sad.  I would never intentionally hurt a friend like that in real life, and I'm sorry that I probably have here, through text.

I DO however stand by my original post #6 and lollipops!! NO ONE REALLY knows how many licks it will take to get to it's center.... so if you want to argue and duke it out, here and now.... BRING IT ON, mister!!

Redefining the Lounge.  Toes are okay to step on, but when your toes are stepped on constantly it hurts.
Hurting someone just because you are bored and have nothing else to do is WRONG.
I grew up with the saying, 'If you don't have anything good to say about someone, keep your mouth shut.'
The same goes on the internet.  Just because you can hurt someone that you don't know, does't mean that it is alright to do so.
This is a support site.  For goodness sakes support each other in a postive way.  You can put your point across and not be evil about it.

This is ridiculous.  I'm openly telling you that you're being oversensitive.  I don't think I'm walking on eggshells by saying that.  If I was walking on eggshells, I would say "Wow, this opinion is very different than mine" or something.  I don't know.

I think you all should just try to understand that she is leaving because she WANTS to.  Or has she decided to stay?  I don't know.  I've had a couple of things edited on here, and I've kind of learned what I cannot post.. but it's not really that big of a deal.  I understand I cannot cuss or be super vulgar or offensive.  I don't think that's a big deal honestly.  If you want to sit around and put people down, then go somewhere else.  That's all.  You can still come here and have a normal conversation.  But I don't see my friends being so "brutally honest" with me when I'm asking for advice, etc.  I mean, I think this place is about making connections to help support your battle with either weight loss or recovery in one way or another.  I don't think it's too much to ask to just be kind to each other, and as there are younger people (I think I've seen some pre-teens on here at one point), I think it's fair to ask not to cuss a lot.  I was around constant cussing as a pre-teen and now I have the mouth of a sailor that I'm constantly working on.

I dunno.  I think everyone should just relax and work on being a support to others going through a similar journey.

Look I will be sorry to see PG go, but it is her choice.

I am a little fed up with people tittle tattling and i think sometimes it's not because they are offended it's another way to get at someone because you don't like them or what they are saying.

I have been flamed on here more times than i care to mention but i don't cry about it.

I too have also had comments removed and threads locked.

You got to toughen up a little.

If the mods get enough complaints about someone then they have to act otherwise they would be accused of not doing their job.

I think you all need to calm down a little PG can come back anytime she wants.

*sighs* puppies... :)

I love how people are being crybabies over, well, crybabies.

A member left becuase she had to much pride to slow her roll. She even gave out her contact info to the people she likes so call her up if you miss her that bad.

weather is definetly off-limits! seems as though we should eliminate the lounge, seeing as we can't talk about anything without having a debate, which may cause the lovely crybabies to *gasp* report us! heck , forget discussing kittens !

Agreed.

The way PG handled this leaves (in my eyes at least) much to be desired.  On Livejournal, (full of emo 14 year olds) it would be called "throwing a community flounce" when someone gets warned and then feels the need to post a topic in order to create as much drama / as many problems for the mods before leaving as he/she can.

As someone who hangs out in weightloss/motivation and tries to be nice and helpful 100 percent of the time (especially to the most tragically misinformed newbies), I've seen some of the posts that I bet were the ones being referenced.  And yeah, I didn't agree with them, but I value her right to be as mean as she wants.  Maybe these people DO just need a kick in the pants, who am I to say that lovey-dovey is the only way?!  However, she is the one who started this drama, and I hope that it either dies off with her leaving, or she ends it herself and decides  to stay.
