refried beans

Quote  |  Reply

So I ate mexican food for lunch today (at a cafe in my school) and I noticed that I got UNUSUALLY full afterwards. I checked my school's nutritional listing for the fish taco and refried beans that I had for lunch, and it listed the total for the plate of two tacos and about 3/4 of a cup of refried beans to be about 350 calories.

then i checked the listing for the refried beans, and it listed the serving of refried beans (4 ounces) as 40 calories.

is that even possible?

I recalculated the meal on calorie count by listing each of the ingredients seperately, and my lunch came out to 460 calories, rather than the 350 my school for the entire plate ( AND another side of cilantro rice).

Is the school's listing wrong? :( Did I accidentally eat way more than I meant to?

1/2 cup (4oz) of refried beans is between 90-130 calories -- I've got three different brands in my cupboard.  I'd like to see the 40 cal 1/2 cup.

Yeah I'd pay good money for 40 cal per 1/2 cup refried beans!

You can buy fat free refried beans. I know that is not possible when eating at school or eating out but at home that is what I buy. Since I add turkey burger or hamburger to the taco mix I don' need the added fat from the beans.

Fat free refried beans still run 90+ calories per 1/2 cup -- that's what I have in my cupboard.  If you have a brand that is only 40 cals per 1/2 cup, please pass on the info -- we want to know
