Reintroducing Semi Skimmed milk contributing to Weight Gain?

Quote  |  Reply

Ok so basically I realised that in minimizing my milk intake I just wasnt getting enough calcium, so Ive upped my SS milk intake by about 3/4 of a cup. Thus increasing my calories by 100 or so per day. Concurrent to this change in my diet, I seem to have put on 7 lbs or so going from 126lbs to 133lbs. Now, to get a fuller picture I have had 2 weekend vacations where I pretty much ate whatever and normally I expect to gain 2lbs and lose them within 2 weeks, but these extra 7 arent going anywhere and I dont understand why. Nothing else has changed in my diet or exercise since July. Also is milk associated with stomach fat  or increase in breast size because that is where I seem to have gained most of the weight. Puzzling.

Are you definitely sure you couldn't be pregnant? That or changing contraceptive pill are pretty much the only things I can think of that would make your stomach or breasts hold onto more fat than you would be used to.

100 extra calories a day would take almost a year to add 7lbs though so it shouldn't be that. Really weigh what you eat to double check you aren't eating more than you think.

The only problems associated with milk is lactose intolerance, but you'd have much more obvious symptoms if that were the cause.

Thanks, I figure its not lactose intolerance seeming before all this i coped fine with milk. i realise that it really does sound like Im pregnant indeed but thats not it and Im not on BC either. Its a bit of a mystery for sure. A lot of the time when Im retaining water due to alcohol I seem to retain it in my breasts as well, very odd.

3/4 of a cup of skim milk is certainly not a lot - but with some people (like me!) milk products can cause some bloating and water retention, especially if you take it day after day - why not try cutting the milk for just a few days and see if you don't lose some of what may be just a bit of excess water weight?

7 pounds in just a week or two seems like too much to gain without some factor like pregnancy (easily ruled out) or bloating.

The reason I dont want to cut it out is because I struggle to get any calcium otherwise. 7lbs crept up over a month or so
