Congratulations on your baby. I have five children and all through my pregnancies and afterwards I worked out. Sometimes, it didn't seem like I was working out, but I found ways to keep in shape. My favorite home work out routine is the Firm Videos. They have worked for me. I also posted exercises around the house, and when I went to that part of the house, I would do those exercises, i.e. near the tv, 25 crunches, in the kitchen on the cabinets, 25 round kicks....whatever I wanted to work on. When I would get up in the morning I would do 25 pushups. On really tired days after being up all night with a baby, I wouldn't do as much. I would take the baby for walks, crawl around on the floor with the baby, etc. Anything I could do to stay active. I never lost weight until at least the 4th month after I had the babies, but then it would come off pretty quickly. The trick is this, you have to find out what will work with you. I did all sorts of stuff. After the fifth child I was very determined so I joined a Karate class and got my black belt. I went almost every day and they didn't mind that I brought the baby. In fact, I signed all my kids up for it and my sons first word was a kia. He would do sit ups in his car seat, it was so hilarious. I think this site is great for keeping track of calories, but be aware that if you are nursing your calories will be different. Stay away from diet sweeteners and go natural as much as possible. Go for good fats and quality nutrient dense foods. Anyway, hope this isn't annoying. Good luck.
I know this will sound silly, but use your baby to exercise.
For example I would lye baby on the floor, on his back, and do modified pushups and smile and talk to him. He especially loved it when I would come down close and touch is nose or belly with my nose.
Sitting on the couch, hold baby facing you, extend your arms, do not lock your elbows and do 3 or 4 sets of 10 just lifting baby.
Lye on your back knees up, sit baby down with back to legs and do crunches. These are very fun as well.
There are endless possibilities to ensure your health and interact with baby. Give it a try.
Not a mom but I do have a little experience. With a new baby, you can use a cloth pouch (snuggly?) that straps your baby to your chest. This is great for walking. A little later you can get a backpack. That is even better because your child can see the world during your travels. There are seats that can be mounted on the back of a bike, if you are into cycling.
I don't know where the father is, but if he is around, he can take over long enough for you get in your exercise time.
