I was chatting with some friends in here and found out that there are quite a few faire junkies amongst my CC buddies so I thought we needed our own room lol. so share your faire and feel free tell about what you like most. I frequent the Texas renaissance faire religiously every year, its mandatory amongst everyone in my family to the point that i need a small bus to hold everyone lol (but thats in the works for the future, I even told my boss that if he won't let me off those days that he can kiss my butt lol. we go the whole weekend and camp on the grounds and just have an amazing time! (plus i met my now BF there so theres even more sentimental reasons to go.)

7 weeks till Faire time and time to break out the sewing machine! i got a pirate and a belly dancer to costume lol
I'm hitting ours next saturday, I haven't been since high school and am pretty excited!  I don't have an 'outfit' but may buy something there, you're never too old to play dress-up.  Are you a member of the SCA?  Ours has armed combat every Monday night- I'm thinking of joining as it sounds like fabulously geeky exercise and fabulously geeky is what I'm all about!  I'd LOVE to answer the 'how are you losing weight' question with 'rapier practice'.

:D
Hi!

My mom, weeks ago, agreed to keep our boys today (Sept 2) & tomorrow - to celebrate our 6 year anniversary.  She is very very busy & I don't fault her at all - but she claims we never talked about it.  I shocked her on Friday when I was verifying the plans.  She had NO CLUE.  So, we re-thunk & she said she will keep them Saturday, Sept 8 so we can go.

Our local one is the Maryland Renn Fest - in Crownsville, MD.  My husband used to be "The Wacky Renaissance Yo-Yo Man" at the festival.  His last year there, they gave him a stage & he was "The Do-er of Odd Deeds."  It wore him out like crazy and he was so stressed, I am glad he's not doing that any more.

We had an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding on Sept 2, 6 years ago.  On Sept 1, we had a mock-wedding at the Renn Fest.  And I thought it would be nice to celebrate our 6 years of marriage at the Fest this year.  ::sigh::

Once my son wakes up from his nap, we're taking my boys to my parents' house & my mom is going to watch our boys while we just have dinner at a restaurant near her.

I have so many Renn Faire costumes (3-4 years of my husband performing there every weekend did that for me....)   and 2 of them are fairy costumes.  One is a fairy-pirate costume.

I did the bubbles - selling bubble wants for Misc. Oddiments - and at first I was "Sparkles the fairy" with yellow & pink & glitter & $120 custom made wings... gorgeous!!   Then I became "Sudsy the fairy" - the bubble wand fairy - a pirate fairy who teaches about not littering & I wore green & purple with $80 custom made wings.  (Much smaller wings - not as heavy - so I could bubble & wear the wings all day & not be so aching by the middle of the afternoon.)

::::sigh::::

I *love* Renn Faire.  I wish we could have gone today & tomorrow - I was really looking forward to opening gate tomorrow - because we live so darn far, I thought we could mosey on over there today after church, spend the night in a hotel closer to the faire, then make opening gate tomorrow morning.  Oh, well.

I'm not even sure I *can* go on the 8th - my calendar is pretty full.  :(

Hugs,  Jodi in VA

Hey Faerie Jodi can you post a pic of your wings? I'm dying to see what you get for $120 for wings...
the husband and i just moved to texas (he's from here) about 5 months ago and we plan on going to the texas renaissance fest this year, this is the first time i've been to one in a long time and i'm really excited!
I go to TRF religiously, because my husband and I got married there.

We dress up, and we go all out. We have about 4-5 costumes each, and don't get to use them all.

We never really have a schedule, we don't really watch the shows... we just like to parade around like peacocks and harrass the people who are not dressed up... and encourage the ones who are just starting out in their garb... and harrass the bubbas. All while under "just a touch" of mead's influence.
oh yeah!  I used to work the Renaissance Faire in northern and Southern California!  Some great times.  I haven't been for years and do miss it.  But it just isn't the same feeling so old and fat and most of my friends aren't their either.

TRF Rules!!  the BF and i always go the weekend of halloween cause you see tons more costumes than the other weekends since everyones dressing up for the costume contest.

I got a couple of my TRF pics in my gallery.  feel free to check em out.

time to start on costumes but i don't know if my daughters BF is gonna get to come with us. he got to come last year so we're keeping our fingers crossed. we're giving him and sort of baggy pirate look.

I'll be going as my usual gypsy wench (which is so much fun to harass the guys with cleavage and bright red lipstick)

the BF will be his usual leatherclad self (rowr) theres something about a man in black leather that just...... **drool**

I never miss my ren faire!  I haven't gotten a costume yet, but I would love to loose enough weight to be a belly dancer!

There's a cool faire that comes to North Carolina every fall I go to.  I have dragged just about everyone I know, but they don't wanna dress up. I'll have to just do it myself... muuu hahaha! I'll be a gypsy!

If you're going to the TEXRENFEST, Heres a bit of advice, camp on the grounds. the traffic is sooooo bad getting out of there at night its crazy. we leave friday eve, set up camp and set the battery alarm clock for 7 am (not that you need it with the train goin through bout that time blasting its horn) we plan on going thursday this year and leaving monday morning sometime, beats the heck out of the traffic woes. plus you get to enjoy the drum circle three nights in a row, (you don't want your kids there after about 9:30pm but till then its okay everyone behaves.) about everyone i have met there has a saying lol, what happens at Renfaire, stays at renfaire. and yes it is kid friendly if you avoid the sea devil tavern, thats the only place as far as stuff that may not be suitable for kiddos. the great thing is if you have something you want to see at the sea devil, the joust field is right across from it and the kids can go see that while you watch your show :D.

I had the opportunity to lug toddlers through the ren faire.  and while i enjoyed sharing it with my kids. its much more fun now that they're older. the trick was lugging the baby lol, we had to find a wagon for her.

Well, I've never been to TRF  - I've never even been to Texas. But I've been to Sterling Ren Fest in upstate NY. That's the only one that I've been to so far but it's very fun and a unique place to go for some exotic fun. (: I don't have any fancy garbs or anything but I like to try on clothings. So fun!! XD

welp I've got my goals set for this ren faire and i think i can do it, 155lbs by oct 28. the ultimate goal is to be down to 120 by next year so i can go as a belly dancer.

If theres one thing i have learned from going to the faire its this, just because it comes in your size doesn't mean it'll look good lol. saw a woman there one year that was as big as me in a chainmal bikini with nothing but a thong under *shudders*

I went to my first ren faire last year as a chaperone for my daughters art class and LOVED it.  We went as a family this year and after that a friend suggested the Society for Creative Anachronism.  A year round ren faire type group!   The family joined the SCA about 2 months ago and ever since I have been doing Archery which has really helped me burn calories.

Its also a hoot to see peoples faces when they ask how are you losing weight and I tell them I'm using Calorie-count and Archery.

YEA FOR REN FAIRES....oh yea, and you don't have to be thin to enjoy them!   lol
My husband & I went to Ren Faire - Maryland - all day yesterday! What fun fun fun!!! There are pix at my blog. Here is one of them. I'm the gal with the clean face. Hahaha!!
This is Mistress Pieu - the laundress for the King.  Hahahahaha!!

edit:   I am trying & trying to post a photo on this post.  But I can't.  :(
You can see pix at my blog.
edit:  I cannot even seem to make the words "my blog" into code!  Argh!!
Well, if you don't mind copying and pasting:

jodibeatty, great pictures! Sure looks beautiful in Maryland! I hope we will have cooler weather this year for the Texas Renaissance Festival; all those layers of fabric can make me wilt!
My profile has a picture my husband took of me yesterday at the MD Renn Fest...  I still haven't taken a photo of me in my wings; I'll do that sooooooon.
Yes, we need a picture of you with wings!
so excited!  my faire is opening in October!  I think I'll dress up as a...... gypsy!  First time dressing up! AND there's a fellow I think I'll see wants to go!
A gypsy !  That would be so great!  I love it when the women dress like gypsys.  I am not yet brave enough to do that yet - nor do I know how to do it.  But I enjoy seeing that look on women.  :)   :)    Especially those wide gold belt things.  :)
There is a group called "Gypsophelia" at our Ren Fest who is a really great musical group.  If they visit your Ren Faire, I definitely recommend that you go hear their music.  I am pretty sure they have a website you can find by searching for their name too.

noelle: I keep pondering rapier practice for weightloss through the SCA.  I've got a local option on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

lemonjello: The upstate NY Sterling ren faire would be my 'home faire.'  I know a couple of the fortune tellers there.  :)  The weekends did not work out for me to get up there this summer.
