replace one or two meals with whey protein shakes?

Quote  |  Reply

Does anyone think replacing a meal or two with a whey protein shake will jumpstart stalled weight loss? High protein was working well for me, but recently I am stuck around 159 (down from 198 since July). Thanks for any suggestions.

maybe one, like breakfast or something, but i know that liquids dont feel me up as much as food does, so i dont have protein shakes that often.

i think that if you try to replace two meals with a shake that it can possibly lead to binging because you're depriving yourself. hope this helps and good luck!

I never found Whey Protein drinks satisfying in regards to neither hunger nor taste. I wouldn't recommend it. Instead, I'd get a pack of frozen chicken breasts to grill up for meals, and some cans of tuna. Whey Protein is really more of a workout supplement that should be taken immediately before and after your workouts...It's not really meant to replace meals.

Edit: And I also agree with Bonnie that it'll probably lead to a feeling of self-deprivation, which we all know just leads to binges.

I am obsessed with protein shakes. What works for me is eating three healthy meals and drinking two protein shakes a day inbetween meals as snacks.

in case you need protein powder suggestions...I think that optimum nutrition gold standard tastes the best and is the best quality. It has 24g of protein and is only 120 calories (when made with water)

I like making my morning cereal with a skim milk/protein powder mix.  I get a definite energy burst for only 300 calories and feel full all morning.

I don't think it's a good idea. Having one for breakfast or maybe lunch could work but i doubt you'd be getting all your dairy, fruit, veg, etc if you're replacing a meal with it.

Be careful with the protein, you don't want to get more than twice your recommended intake because it can inhibit the absorption of calcium. 2 protein shakes is probably your whole day and that doesn't take into account any other protein you eat. I'd say stick with one and maybe do it as a snack instead of meal replacer.

Thanks everyone. I think the most I will do is one!
