I was reading this article on about.com and it was showing how resistance bands are better than dumbells. Is this true and if it is where can I buy some? are there retail stores where I can get them at. I want some in different thickness and the ones with the handles on each side. Anyone know anything about these things?

I recently tried using these at the gym a few times. I liked them a lot. They are not solid, so I find they cause you to use different muscles than if you were just holding a dumbell. You have to work harder to stabilize your muscles. Think of doing a crunch lying on a mat, vs on a yoga ball. Same concept.

I'm pretty sure you can buy them in any big dept store. Ive seen them at Target, Sears etc.

Good luck!
Hmmm Perhaps I can get them at walmart... I dont have a target near me but I do have a sears its not the fullsize one though. Thanks for the feedback!
No prob!
I'd be really shocked if Wal Mart didn't have them.

kat :)
As would I. From what I hear you can excersize your whole body with these and I want to give it a try.

EDIT: Walmart has some I checked the online store.  Im going to run down there and get some.
you can order some from power systems, they have a wide variety of resistance levels
you can get them at wal mart. I have before. They are great and are not hard on your joints... I love working out with them. just like dumbells, they are great for toning.
i use resistance bands! i primarily use them for my legs/butt area. i do squats, lunges, and other exercises with them, and almost always wake up with a sore bottom the next day :o)
the first resistance band i bought was made by 'the firm'.  i bought it first in medium, then in light ... both were impossible for me to use.  i'm a short person but the cord still felt too short ... i couldn't lift the handles above my head while stepping on the cord!!  well, after returning both of those, i looked further and ended up with this one.  it's fantastic and i have no complaints!
Thanks guys. Im going to get one from walmart and if that doesnt work Ill get one from power systems. Yeah I basically want to use them for chest press and Bicep Curls and legs and butt thats about it.
I have a set from bodylastics.  It comes with 5 different bands, handles, ankle straps and a door anchor.  Plus a year subscription to strength band university.  They have videos to show you how to do over 140 different exercises with the bands.  I think it was about 50 bucks.  They have one that is more that comes with a video but I figured with SBU I didn't need a video.

It's a great workout.  Oh yeah they come with a nifty little carry bag.
Yeah I just got some from walmart the long one was going to be for my chest presses and bicep curls but they were wayyyyyy to weak.  I can chest press about 90-100Lbs and curl about 20-30Lbs. Where can I get 2 resistance bands that will work for me like that? Like bodyscience said powersystems and I see the size recomendations so I should get a Red and Blue Im guessing but anyone know any places they sell resistance bands for the kind of stuff I need?
