resistance.. or running?!

Quote  |  Reply
With running 2 miles a day burning about 450 calories EVERY morning.. i feel WONDERFULL... but no weight loss.? (yes i watch what i eat) Now before i started the running i did ALOT of resistance training a day, then probably about 3 walks which = 3 miles a day + resistance.. and i was losing a smallllllll amount of weight. but thats better than none right?

but now that im not running and just doing resistance and walking, i feel lazy like i'm cheating myself cause im not running. but the last thing i want to do it OVER do it with running, walking AND resistance, because resistance training uses muscles i didnt even know i had! haha

So what should i do?.. GGRRRRRRRRR.

some one help me darnit!

Well, it doesn't sound like you're overdoing it; maybe run a mile instead of two while doing your resitence training. It kinda depends how you feel, but if you feel lazy, I'm guessing you're not at risk for overtraining.

Another thing, when doing resistence training, try to go for the 8-10 rep sets, as those would build muscle and improve metabolism more than a 15 rep set.
I was having some probs...I worked out 5-6 days a week. 60 min between an eliptical and a stepper...high intensity ...with 20 min being pure resistance lvl 25 on the eliptical.  Strength training my legs one day then my upper body the next...high weight.. low reps...5 sets.  Now I am going to add running at night 2 -3days and walking the rest.  ( I do that work out in the midmorning hrs). I am burning aprox 18-2k a day and eating 1500- 1900 calories ( zig zagging). If this does not work..I am going to drown myself in the bath tub. I feel all this muscle buried under all this fat.

Cata~

are you sure that you are burning 450 calories?

it takes me at least 45mins or 5 miles running to burn about that much

I think you should do both!  Run three to four times a week then do resistance three times a week.  One run a week should be a "long" run.  Cardio + strength is a good choice for weight loss.

Wes, what's up with you bumping old running threads?

Ha!  Didn't even look at the date.  They showed up on page two of my browser.  I thought they were current.  Sorry!  Embarassed

It's not Wes' fault. we had a spammer who came through here and bumped a good half-dozen running threads to push their little blog. More than one person replied to them thinking they were current, and that looks a bit strange after I deleted the spammer ;)
