I am responsible for my feelings.

*eyes the thread suspiciously, trying to figure the angle*

All of the Above.

AND

None of the Above.

You will feel as I tell you to feel. You are getting very sleepy....now you think you are a chicken.

Look out! The sky is falling!

All of you are responsible for my feelings. NOT

Actually, I've changed my mind.

Yo Momma is responsible for my feelings.

um, isn't it everyone and everything, including myself...  but especially stupid people, since they get the most annoying emotions out of me.  dang stupid people...

this thread is making me feel weird.

if you think that anyone other than yourself is responsible for your feelings, then congratulations!  you just handed over the only real power you have to other people, stupid people, or authority figures!  Smile

Are you absolutely sure about that?  Manilow does nothing for me.

Ok, I know in this age of self-help psychobabble we're all supposed to answer A. I see the phrase "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent" bandied about a lot. But honestly? Unless you live in some kind of vacuum chances are you interact with people and form different types of relationships. And chances are things the people in your life say or do have an impact on you.

I've heard this type of thinking used to justify emotional abuse. "I wasn't cruel and hurtful towards you. YOU chose to respond by getting upset. YOU need to control your emotions better, but I'm not responsible for my actions at all." type of mentality.

I hear things like "When you get angry at someone you're giving your power to them." Guys on the board, does anyone every say this to MEN? Because it sounds a lot like a variation on the idea that women are expected to not show anger.

Denying your emotions is not "empowerment". Taking responsibility for how you affect the world around you is.

Rant over.

HK. I sold them to him 7 months back for 3 goats and a polar fleece blanket.

The Hoff.

Except for my angry feelings.  Chuck Norris is responsible for those.
