How many rest days do you allow yourself a week?
I usually give myself 2 to 1 days off a week. Depending on how tired I am or if I have any events or duties to attend to. ![]()
Weekends are usually my recovery period so I'm off 2 days. With the weather being nicer now I'll probably switch that up when I've got a new bike or when I start doing some swimming. Right now, just working on run so I do that Early am.
Usually just one... I try to keep my workouts fairly consistant so I don't have any excuses - they're scheduled into my day, so do 'em!- kind of thing. Even on my off day I usually take my dog for a nice walk.
I usually work out every week day and take the weekends off from hard workouts. Now that spring is coming and the weather will (hopefully) be getting warmer, I'll probably go for a jog on one day of the weekend, leaving just one rest day.
Now that I'm into weigh tlifting, I NEED 3 recovery days. I used to be able to work out 6 days, 17-20 hours a week without a problem (cardio endurance, intervals, muscle endurance). Now I simply can't, my body screams at me and I'm pretty much forced to give it some rest. 4 days and 8 hours total is the most I can do now.
Usually two days a week, sometimes three days. If my week is extremely busy I'll even take 4 days off, but that doesn't happen too often (and I usually try to make up for it if it does happen!)
I usually take one day off a week.
3-4 days off, depending on the weather (if it's nice, I'll go biking).
to be honest....NONE!!!...I don't really see the need for me to take off...I get more sleep than 90% of America so I don't really need too. People might say...ohhhh you need to rest so your muscles can grow..blah blah blah...yeah right....listen...I've conditioned my body to be a "Freak" so I usually try to get in 10 - 14 hours of sleep on the weekends, but I never really take a day "OFF". there are some days that I go easy, but I never take off....that's just not even in my vocabulary...I think it's against my religion....lol
are there times where I'm not lifting...sure there are, but those are the times i'm usually fighting or training without lifting weights...so eehhhh...I guess those are my rest days then...btu the key to being really really fit (and also having nice skin)...lol...is a lot of water...and sleep sleep sleep. I drink 1 gallon of water a day, and get aboput8 hours of sleep...but more on the weekends. water and sleep are essential to the serious athlete...
4 off days a week now, it'll probably go down to 1 or 2 once hurling season starts.

I think this is really counter productive advice.
High impact exercise done over a long period with no rest can lead to injury and stress fractures and all sorts - this can be damaging advice for beginners that might read your posts.
Typically two, but even on those days I'm doing things like going for walks with hubby or my boys, or playing exhausting games of tag, pokemon battle, or dinosaur hunter.
I never take a day off, I feel too good after my work outs to go a day without one! Honestly, working out for me is like 5 cups of coffee in the morning! It puts pep in my step and on the RARE occasion that I don't get to work out, I feel so crummy that day! (That might also have to do with the fact that the reason I may take a day off is because I am driving - starting early in the morning - or sick! ha ha).
I think you should look at your rest day as part of your workout. In lifting muscles actually grow and develop after you are done lifting and during the recovery period. If you are doing intensive cardio, HIIT type activities it is much the same. You need that day to allow your body to recover and heal. It is ok to keep active that day. Take the stairs, walk a little more but I have seen more results with allowing one full day a week to recover. Spend that time doing something you enjoy or getting chores done instead.

I take about 2-3 days off, usually take 1 day off during the week and then it depends on the weekends activities , so thats where it can either be 2 or 3 days off, I always seem to take sunday off - its just one of those lazy sunday days - Love sundays! so it depends on the sat.
:)
I must say that more than 2 days in a row of no exercise really gets me crummy too, my mood swings, I feel bloated and just don't feel 'well'.
