Rest between reps

Quote  |  Reply
Question.  I usualy work out for about 45 min a day with weights.  This week I can only do 30 min a day on lifting.  I dont want to cut back on my lifting.  My queation is I usualy rest 1 min between reps.  Is it ok to rest 30secs between reps and will you get the same results or better????

I think you mean rest between sets... and I think you will get better results because it will force your muscles to recover faster.
Yes im sorry Sets.
Or you could try doing a circuit

If you've been doing anything for a long time, a change will help.  Cutting rest and increasing rest are both useful strategies at times, so don't worry about it.

Changing tempo (the amount of time you take per rep for each of raising the weight, lowering the weight, and pausing (if at all) at each extreme) is also a useful strategy.  For example, most people lift "too fast" most of the time, and would profit from slowing down.  But there are also uses for explosively quick tempo.

In short, the only change you can make guaranteed to hurt is to stop lifting entirely ;-)
Thx tgpish. Good advice. I felt more of a burn today that I took less time between sets. Felt good.
Be careful to eat back your calories when you circuit, I circuit trained for a month and lost 9 lbs, probably mostly lean tissue. It's alright if you're a big tall person, but at 5'5 139 I didn't have 9 lbs to lose that quickly. Eat big!

As tgpish stated, changing your speed between lifting and lowing  is a good way to switch up your workout a bit.  You can also change it by doing a circuit set as suggested, doing super sets, or changing the number of sets and reps you do.  In fact, it is a good idea to switch your workout about every 4 weeks to challenge your muscles. Your muscles have memory and without changing your workouts every so often you will stop seeing results. The only real recommendation I can make is to, perhaps, become a Cowboys fan :)
