I think my favorite restaurant in Portland would have to be Andina - a Peruvian restaurant in the Pearl. Amazing food and awesome atmosphere!
I've heard of that one, but have yet to go. Ten 01 is great as well. It's also in the Pearl. I believe both of those restaurants made it in the "Best of Portland" in the most recent Portland Monthly. I assume Peruvian food has some really healthy and clean choices?
I'll have to try it out next time I'm up there :)
I have been to Andina once, I was very impressed. I don't get to the Pearl very often, so I have not had the chance to return. I will definitely be back there eventually.
I like Pambiche at 28th and Glisan on the east side (Cuban food). Have you tried that one?
I've heard nothing but great things about Pambiche, but I've yet to venture over there.
I'm a big fan of Chaat House (an Indian cart off Morrison), Blossoming Lotus and Cha! Cha! Cha!
Sweet Pea vegan bakery on SE Stark is positively delicious, as well.
And if you're counting coffee shops, don't miss out on Coffeehouse Northwest (Trinity and Burnside). Shameless promotion, as my boyfriend works there.
Anyone know where to get a great salad?
Andina is one of my favorite places...they have great ap's that are light and healthy. OBA's another fav, Pok Pok, hmmm there's so many. It's so hard to calculate calories on here for gourmet foods, I don't eat junk food or fast food, barely ever and that is what seems to be the primary database on here. Any thoughts?
Oba in the Pearl: great chocolate Chimichanga (dessert), ahi tuna curry, crispy coconut prawns, coyotes, quesadillas, and tamales.
Vinotopia in Vancouver theater Cinetopia: excellent burger, super duper Fruit Crumble (dessert), mac and cheese is also really good.
Pho Van & Pho Oregon: great Vietnamese food altogether. Try the Che Van dessert beverage.
Legin: Good Chinese food for dinner.
Wong's King: Great dimsum.
Love, love, love Tin Shed on NE 14th and Alberta -- a quick walk from my house, great food, good veg selections, and dog-friendly.
Also a huge fan of Deschutes Brewery in the pearl -- super good food, if a bit chainy, and great beer.
Malay Satay Hut great Malaysian food and pretty inexpensive, off 82nd in the newer mall between Powell and Division. And my all time fave is the new Fiorano Ristorante out in Tualatin, amazing Italian food and 95% of the dishes are veg.
Any good Ethiopian spots? I tried this out for the first time in Boston when I visited a friend and fell in LOVE. SO healthy and incredibly delicious! Makes me wish I like cooking because I'm dying for some more!
My favorite restaurants:
McCormic & Schmick's Harborside at the Marina has been a longtime favorite of mine. Though it does tend to get busy at the weekends (justifiably), the food is to die for. My favorite healthful option on the menu is the Seasonal Field Greens salad, which packs a surprising amount of flavor. Also, the Alaskan Cod Fish and Chips is remarkably light and delicious. When I deserve it, I go for the 1/2 lb Cheeseburger, which I believe to be unmatched by any fast food or gourmet burger joint in Portland. Another splurge would be the Fried Calamari (oh my god, yum).
Lincoln is great as well. Everything is so gourmet and fresh. The atmosphere is relaxed, the music is great, and the service is unsurpassed.
