Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'm a 23 year old female 5'10'' and very active. I'm happy with my body and have been maintaining my current weight (144lbs) for a few months. My daily limit is 2000 cals and i always burn 3500 cals a week. Sometimes more. I wouldn't mind getting rid of a few more pounds. Last week i burned over 6000 calories and never went over my limit of eating 2000 cals a day. The calories i burn come from high-intensity excercise. I wear a heart rate monitor and keep my heart rate really high. I weighed myself this morning and was 144lbs! I dont understand! The only thing i can think of is that i've been lifting heavy weights, few reps, to build muscle. Could it be that the muscle weighs the same as the fat? I do feel much tighter but shouldn't i see the numbers dropping on the scale???

Sounds to me at 5'10 144 eating 2000 calories a day would be for maintenance.  Try eating more fiber at the begining of the day (25 grams before dinner).  My sister is a nutritionist and she has done that for years and it seams like whatever she eats at night doesn't even count.  I just started doing this and eating healthy a year ago, and it has helped me too.  Just a suggestion, give it a whirl.

You may be losing fat but increasing your lean muscle mass at the same time, and although the muscle takes up less space, it weighs more (denser) so that you could lose X lbs of fat, strenghten, and show the same weight.

Inches would be a better determinant for you than the number on the scale.

Also, your BMI is at the lower end of a healthy range, so losing lbs will probably not do much for you--it will be very difficult and you probably don't have a lot of extra fat. Concentrate on the toning and you will "shrink" in size some, look better, feel stronger, and get a better overall result.

FYI: you cannot actually add mucle while maintaining a calorie deficit. But you can tighten up and strengthen what you already have.
