~~RESULTS~~ St. Patty's Day Virtual Race -- GET OUT AND MOVE!

Quote  |  Reply

The members of the Run Around the World thread would like to announce a challenge to everyone out there to get out and move! This St. Patrick's Day weekend we are challenging everyone to a 5K (3.1 miles), 8K (4.96 miles), or 10K (6.2 miles). You can run or walk (no bicycling please) with or without your pint o' stout, to or from the bar, toward or away from the rainbow (yeah, you get it)... JUST MOVE YOUR IRISH SELF!

All you have to do is sign up here for whichever distance you'll be running or walking. Then next weekend (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday), go out and do it (please be fair and only post for the distance you complete). Come back to this thread and post your distance and time. If you're feeling lucky, post your age. We'll tabulate the results early next week and break down the winners by time/distance/age (when noted). Winner gets bragging rights and the luck o' the Irish.

Results!

Nice job, movers and shakers! You beat the leprachaun to the pot of gold and may even have done it without the assistance of a pint o' stout. Thanks to everyone for participating and encouraging! I'll continue to monitor the posts to see if there were any late check-ins, but here's what we have as of Monday night (St. Patrick's Day). The results are listed fastest to not quite as fast. I noted male/female as well as posted age, but the field size of runners was 12 with 10 finishing so in some cases it seemed... a little too "resulty." So, really, unless you had too many pints today, I trust that everyone can do some of the math themselves. Wink

Great race pandajenn19 and best wishes for your 20 miler tomorrow.

Here on the east coast we had a similarly beautiful day for running.  The forecast was for isolated thunderstorms, cloudy, and windy.  There was no rain, clear blue sky and only a light breeze blowing east to west across the race (which was run north to south)  The race course finished the last two miles along the Virginia Beach Boardwalk offering a fantastic view of the Atlantic ocean.

I finished my first 8K ever in 57:46 (and I didn't bonk thanks wrm for the caution regarding pacing).  I will take that with a big smile.  Even better was that my wife ran with me and later on I ran an extra mile with my 7 yo daughter, what fun!!  It was her second "final mile" race.  Needless to say I was more excited about her finish than anything that I did.  She ran with heart and pushed herself in a way that was inspiring.

Great job, Panda and Wili!!!! You both did awesome! Good luck on the long run tomorrow, Panda!!!

Great job, everyone!! I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone else who committed to some race this weekend.

Good luck on your long run tomorrow, pandajenn. I also have a long run scheduled tomorrow (22 miles).

Well, I finished the 7K at 36:31, pretty close to my 36 minute goal, even though I started way too far back and lost a lot of time over the first 2 miles regaining position.  The event was a blast, though.  Irish bands and step dancers, free food and beer at the finish.  Wall-to-wall runners for blocks, and they are all dressed in green--what a hoot.

5k - 28:04 - 19/M.

It was a windy day, but overall it was all well and good.  I finished 1568 of 3319, not bad for my 1st official 5k.

I did the 8k in 41:15.  I feel awesome about that.  It's my fastest time doing the 8k. I did it last night from 7 - 7:40.  I am 25.

5K -  26:49

New Personal best as beat previous PR (Only other 5k run) of 27:35.

Running a real 5k race in 2 weeks and shooting for < 26:00, but was burning and churning to get 26:49 so we will see.

I ran a 10K as part of my long run on Sunday, so it was super slow.  I ran 13 miles in approx 2 hours, 5 minutes, so extrapolating 10K out of that it means I ran it in 59.60.  That  is the exact same time I did my very first 10K in, how funny is that?

Great job to all the runners!

Factor in the starting shuffle I bet you would have been under 26minutes in an equivilant training run.  In my race yesterday there were 3319 finishers, I spent the 1st half mile-full mile or so dodging through the walkers and slow joggers before I could hit my stride.

Jeremy,

great job in 1st 5K as finishing in top 50% of the field is my goal being a beginner.  From what most runners told me on 1st 5k anything under 30 min is pretty good.

Primadonna,

Thanks for link to the route mapping site ... looks awesome and with gas prices will save me some $$ not driving routes!

Top 50% was my goal. I am running in another one on 4/13, my goal for that one is top 40% under 26minutes (this one will have far fewer runners so the opening pack shuffle shouldn't be a problem like when there were 3000+ runners.

That website rules!!! I'd like to say thanks to Primadonna also.

Results posted! Thanks everyone for taking on the challenge with such limited notice. Stay tuned for our Memorial Day Spectacular!
