Reversing the Good

Quote  |  Reply

I have finally realized that I am my worst enemy.  I was so proud of myself when I stepped on the scale and realized that I had actually lost 3 to 4 pounds.  Guess how I celebrated? I drunk a lot of Bud Light Lime. Then spent the next day snacking. WOW! How smart was that of me.  I actually picked my weight back up. Talk about disgusting. I am so disgusted with myself. The worst part about it all is I then try to kill myself by doing double time on the Wii and other exercises.

Am I alone?

Sadly Reversed.

I've been there.

A pound of fat is 3500 calories. So to gain a pound of fat in one day, you would have to eat/drink 3500 calories OVER what you burned that day. 3 pounds of fat gained would be 10,500 calories in addition to the 2000 or so calories that you would naturally burn off in a day.

Summary is; any weight you put on during your Bud Light Lime and snacking day is not fat and you have not set yourself back at all. Just don't do it every day.

I call these "oops days" and have experienced a few of them since I started eating healthy and losing weight over a year ago. I've never gained back any of the fat I lost and continued to lose weight at a good pace. On these rare oops days (moderation) , I have gained up to 10 pounds of food and water weight (ug)  that typically goes away in a couple days. It's always a little freaky, but I've had it happen enough that I know the drill. I've been maintaining more or less for over a year and give myself a 5lb "cushion" since it's normal for a body to fluctuate in weight daily.

To get rid of it; drink plenty of water, sweat some of it out with excersice, and eat healthy food. Basically, get back on track.

Yeah I have this problem sometimes. I'm not sure what the trick is exactly. I call this type of behaivour my 'inner brat' surfacing. I find that it usually surfaces if I've been to hard on myself, sacrifice a little too much and in general not giving myself a break. Balance and making sure that I'm taking care of my needs seems to help. I now try (try being the key word) to embrace my inner brat when it does surface, it means I have to take a step back, reevaluate & see what I need to do for myself. Maybe its taking a break from the gym to do just nice easy walking in the park, or maybe I need to stop pushing myself at work.

But we are all different, so I can't say this applies to you.

Thank you so much. I reallly need to read this.

I didn't know about the number  of calories it would take to actually gain a lot.  I believe it is more water gain than anything else. I do drink a lot of water, I'm back on my diet (Dr. Ian) and I work out in the mornings and again in the evenings, taking a break once a week

Octo-Luv, I find that swapping out exercises on a daily basis helps to keep me very motivated in that area.  For example, I may box and play baseball, etc. today, but tomorrow, I will do strength training and yoga.

I can honestly see the result in the way my clothes fit me.

I think I'm just disgusted because of my lack of self-control this weekend.  This dieting/exercise is really new to me and I'm constantly wondering if I'm doing it right.  How long am I going to stick to it. So I push myself to prove to myself that I'm not a quitter.

I'm going to try to follow both of your advice with a lot more confidence.

Again, thank you both.

XTremely Grateful!
