Reward System

Quote  |  Reply

I've got a new system for losing weight now, and it's working out pretty well so far. (two pounds in the first week! woo!) Just thought I'd share it with you all, in case anyone else has been having motivation problems lately :)

I have a list of things I've been wanting to buy for myself, and next to each item is a weight that I want to reach. So for every pound that I lose, I treat myself by buying something! For the most part the stuff on my list is reasonably priced... but for every five pounds, I'll buy nicer things for myself, and at the fifteen pound mark (my long term goal), I plan on buying something pretty expensive.

So, today I went out and bought the new Mastodon album, and five pounds from now I get to gorge myself on the chocolate bunny that's been waiting for me in the freezer since Easter! :D It's been pretty good motivation so far.

Also, in my account settings, instead of putting in my long term goal, I enter short term goals (a pound a week, for example). Signing into my account and seeing "you have twenty pounds to go!" can be a bit daunting, to me.

Let's list some ideas for rewards to help each other imagine!

manicure

pedicure

spa treatment or massage

psychic reading

new outfit

Hi,

I did the same thing for every half  pound I lost, my husband put in 50 p,(we re on a strict budget - ),  this then adds up and every half a stone I have money to spend on a treat. My favourite is scarves, I have loads, some since I was 18. Nail polish is another love of mine. When I get to a mini goal of 25 lbs ( handbags), then I get a biger treat, and again at 50lbs and 75lbs. My total goal of 105lb loss, is going to be a loads of new clothes, (of which I will already have all the acccessories - scarves, handbags, nail polish, statement jewellery piece etc for, that I use my mini goals to get).

I bought myself an mp3 player once I reached my almost-ther-enow goal of 140lbs. It should arrive any day now, eee! :D

Now I wont get bored at the gym!

This is a great idea!  I was setting weekly goals for myself (calories, excerise, etc) and putting money in an envelope for when I reached my long term goal...but I keep not getting there Tongue out (so the money is just waiting......)

I'm going to have to think of some rewards.  I would love to see what other people reward themselves with!

I like the idea of re-setting your goals. I'm going to have to do just that!
Before joining CC my sisters and I had weekly challenges. Whoever won would get a SS charm. Today I won a "key to success" charm for accumulating the most exercise points. Unfortunately I didn't get a charm for losing the most weight. But there's always the coming week!! Wink

Now that is a great idea! I think that I want to implement it myself.

Buying a deserved treat (that should not be food in my case) is definitely good motivation!

I personally would not re-set my long term goal as I am affraid that it would let me loose track.

Thanks for the idea!

I love mastodon!!!!! I ran into them at a restaurant in Mass once hahaha.  I can't believe another girl likes mastodon!

In terms of goals hah...most people say not to use food as a reward...I have found the opposite.  Most people chose to have a cheat meal once in a while...I use that meal as my reward.  For example, my next goal is 154 because that will be halfway through my weightloss, when I reach that I will have a cheat meal of chinese food.

After that my goal is 150 because that is what I weighed when I went away to college, my reward for that is going to be one meal at burger king (which I haven't eaten since November).

My long term goal of 130 will be a much bigger reward, one being new clothes, two, I might get a tattoo.

I have some rewards set up for myself too.  I don't get anything until each 10 though.  I may have to change that since my weekly goal is 1 pound a week.  Ten weeks is a bit far away.
