What do you reward yourself with now?

Quote  |  Reply

Just started this journey on weight loss again two weeks ago.  I've been taking a lot away from all of you... especially setting mini goals as my target weight is only like 2 years away if I stay on track.

So in approaching the mini goals, like 10% body weight loss, the first 10 lbs.... I find that in looking at my relationship with food that I often use it as motivation.  Like- I can have a sweet if I do my exercise....get a good review at work... etc.

I think this has to change to move forward in my weight loss journey- so I'm looking for some suggestions.  What do you use as your rewards?

Ive only just started this week but my treat for this saturday is going to be a lemmon & poppy seed muffin made with frut sugar rather than normal & light marge rather than butter, so a treat but I want to get my system used to healthy treats rather than just say oh u did good have a chocolate bar!!

& for hitting my goals it will be a few clothes in that size, so that i dont go round looking like a clown as i lose weight Surprised

Harriet

burgendy and harrietanne,

Hello, so nice to meet you.  I treat myself with things like:

a trip out to the movies (diet sprite and a big dill pickle, not popcorn and soda)

new sneakers or flip flops

costume jewelry

manecure (I can't spell, but get your nails done)

I think at 50 pounds I may get my feet done or a massage!

I've only lost 25 pounds, so I  haven't gotten many big treats.

I'll tell you this.  My biggest treat is a pat on my own back.  Reward myself by telling me...you done good, girl!  Way to go!  You made it thru the day and stayed below your calorie target!!!  I spend time for just me -  Longer tub bath.  A TV show I want to watch or a magazine I like.  Trip to the library for a book or tape.  Time on Everquest (computer game).  Girly things like Coconut flavored bath soap, a new bath sponge (little things, but just a little treat)

I DON'T use food as a reward anymore, not even healthy food because it is just too easy for me to then go...oh well, if you are going to treat yourself with food, why not go all the way!

I buy myself clothes, jewelry, and shoes... because like the weight loss those things are related to my physical appearance and make me feel good about make physical appearance.

I had a lot of fun the other day coming up with a nice list of goals and rewards... the goals need more work. The rewards? It feels like a Christmas wish list! (-:

The biggest thing for me is gradually purchasing my favorite series (The Wheel of Time, any takers?) on audiobook. Double whammy because they're great for making long uphill walks feel like just a few minutes.

My initial method of weightloss (or accomplishing anything, really) is always involved with punishment, though... so it's very difficult for me to rearrange my thinking so I STOP telling myself I can't do something if I don't do well. Because then, well, I just give up entirely. AND I'M NOT GOING TO GIVE UP! GRRRR!

... I think I'll give myself a gift at the start of every month I'm still "on track." Yay.

queendana and highviscosity,

Nice to meet you both.

My son has the Wheel of Time series, but not the audiobooks.

I like the idea of a gift to myself every month...hm maybe that isn't often enough.  How about every two weeks, that's better.  Soon enough that I can look forward to it and far enough away to be an incentive.

Thanks for the good ideas.  I'm thinking a good pedicure wouldn't hurt.  I think once a month is good enough for me personally.

Being on a budget I don't often have the funds to reward myself with new things, so I find other things to look forward too.

Cloths falling off (thank god I have a closet of many sizes)

People noticing....that once in a blue moon oh ****, look at you moment

having friends over for a dinner party (I usually don't make the time too busy working) and since I cook I know its all good

one movie on demand

new exercise routine...every time i hit a mini goal I change up what I do that way I don't get bored (i bore quickly)

Its goes on but u get the idea

My treats are not expensive either, but I have big ideas.

When I lost 65 pounds, I rewarded myself by getting a tattoo. It is of my beloved bulldog that passed away in April of 2008.

I never really thought of a reward system. I don't much like to buy things, and I know eventually I will need to buy clothes, so as i need them I will buy them.

I do however have one upcoming reward - and I hate hate hate food related rewards, but...

When I hit 199 (in 8.6 more pounds) I am going to Souper Salads. Its about an hour away, i have never been, and if I can't get someone to go with me that same week I make 199, well shoot, I'm just gonna go by myself! :)

I have considered getting my nails done, but I don't care much about that.

I got my unintentional reward yesterday..I needed a couple of new shirts just because..So I went to the Plus Size store where I shop..I went to the rack and got my usual size  and tried one on and it was all baggy on me..I had to go down a size and it was loose..I was so excited !!

There was nothing I could have gone and bought myself that would have equaled that feeling..Down another 2 pounds this week too.

What a great way to start the week !!

Lyntex,

That is really super.  Such an exultant feeling.  I celebrate with you.

My next goal is fifty pounds and my reward is two new bras.  I'll set a new reward after I reach this one, but it probably will be a couple of new blouses.  Mine are getting pretty big.

KDH,

You go and have a great time.  If no one chooses to go with you , take a good book and relax and have a great time.  I love to eat at a restaurant and read.  I don't know why, but it is very relaxing to me.

I told my daughter if I could lose 100 pounds I would get a tatoo. But I am rethinking that - I think I will be too chicken. Maybe I will get a manicure. LOL

Flirtin Mom - I wouldn't be able to do the whole tatoo thing either, but I think 100 pounds is worth way more than a manicure! How about a whole day at a spa - think big!!!! Oh and by the way what is this IF stuff - how about WHEN I lose 100 punnd I will.....

Sunni

yea, we don't want to hear any of this "if" nonsense here - knock it off.

I think when I am at 50% I will repierce my tongue, and maybe some tattoo at full 100% is a good plan - oh no wait, I think i will get my only tattoo recolored... It was so pretty when I got it, and now its this faded nasty stretched out scry blob.

As soon as I'm a size 12 I am going to buy a fantastic dress from my favorite store:

www.anthropologie.com

KDH,

That's the problem with tatoos.  They look pretty when you are twenty...that little fairy on your chest is sweet and pretty.  At 50 she is wrinkled, stretched and faded.

If I were to get one, I think it'd be on my ankle.  Surely that doesn't change too much (unless you are one of those prone to ankle edema..or diabetic...

Nevermind. I'll just get a motorcycle!!!

I've actually been thinking about rewards a lot recently.  I don't personally want to reward myself with food anymore,  I've done that my whole life and I want to break that habit.

When I lost 10 lbs I bought myself the perfume that I like and the BF loves. I had hit my 20 lb loss just last week and I got 2 new sweaters.   I've been fighting to get out of the 220's since 10/1 so I fully plan to get a pedicure once I hit 219.

I'm having A LOT  of fun right now planning my halfway mark prize.  The plan is to buy a really nice ring or bracelet.  I want to be able to wear something on my hand to remind me of the progress I've made. I figure that way when I'm reaching for the fridge or a bad choice of some sort the jewelry will remind me of how far I've come and help to motivate me till I reach my goal.

Once I hit my goal I am getting another Tattoo, I've actually considered booking my preferred tattoo artist for my goal date now.  Char is crazy busy and books at least 6 months in advance so it's seriously not crazy.  I have 5 already so I doubt I'll chicken out :).  I have no idea what I'm going to get yet, but I'm a libra and scales seem somehow appropriate for this particular journey.
