Is this the right plan for me?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey, I'm 5'0 16 years old and last time I checked probably around 120 lbs. I want to lose the fat around my belly area and change my lifestyle to a healthier one. I want to get down to 110 lbs where I was a couple of months ago, it only lead me to gaining more weight after a strict diet and binging episodes. I want to change my diet completely and keep at it in the long run. I'm sticking to 1600 calories and burning around 878 everday. Which is 2 hours and 10 mins of exercise.  I want to keep my deficit fairly high but not enough to harm myself. Planning to also eat as clean as possible and all healthy foods. How long will it take for my body to adjust to this and Is this a good plan for me, if not then what do you suggest? Please, I need some help, I don't want to follow a plan that's going to lead me in the wrong direction.

2 hours and 10 minutes of exercise everyday? A bit much... plus you should take a day off for recovery. There's nothing wrong with eating clean, but don't restrict yourself to the point where you can't enjoy your favorite food even if it's unhealthy once in a while. The calculators on here won't work for you, so use one designed for people under 21, such as this one:  http://www.kidsnutrition.org/energy_calculato r.htm

Then subtract 500-700 off of that total, no more than 1000.

You are not eating enough and your deficit is too high.  The tools here on CC are designed for adults.  Teens need a different set of guidelines.  Here are a few websites that will help you determine a more appropriate level of calories and nutrition

  • calculator and calorie information for Teens
  • Nutrition, Exercise & Weight Management for Teens
  • More Nutrition & Health for Teens
  • I hope you'll click on these and make use of the information there.

If I were you, I would just exercise a lot and eat whatever you want as long as it's clean. Exercise is going to make you lose the fat around your belly area more than dieting. As a teen, I would think you would need to be eating 1600 at minimum AFTER your burn. Even as an adult eating under 1000 calories is a serious problem.

Unless you meant 1600 plus the 878 you would burn for a intake of 2478. Which I think sounds like an excellent plan because it's pretty much what I suggested above. Burning that much would mean getting a lot of exercise (like playing sports) and eating 2400 calories would mean you could eat pretty much whatever you wanted. If you learn to exercise and eat healthily now, then weight shouldn't be a problem for you in the future and you won't have to resort to calorie counting like a lot of us!! Lol.
