right/wrong weight loss reasons

Quote  |  Reply

So I just joined up today on this site and I been reading through some of these posts and see many different reasons for losing weight. I want to see if the reasons I am wanting to lose a few pounds now are the right reasons and not a wrong reason from when I started to lose weight back in HS.

My name is Steven and currently I am 19 years old and in college. I am 5'5" and I am coming in around 125 pounds. Back in high school I maxed out around 143 pounds not of muscle but of fat. Some of you must be thinking for a guy that is not bad but people in my family are naturally light so this was alot of weight to make me have a decent gut and some moobs. Then around senior year I realized this wasn't what the ideal weight I wanted to be and the track I was one I was going to be overweight eventually. That year I started to lift and run more and I dropped to 132 pounds and maintained that. This past summer I lost another 7 more pounds to get where I am now and still want to lost about 3 to 4 more. Currently I am not fat at all and have gained alot of muscle but the reason I have now to lose weight is to get my abs tone and get a six pack. I feel like this is a poor reason to lose weight from when I started to stay healthy and make sure I was not going hit the point of being overweight.

So the question I pose is this still a valid reason to try to lose weight or a selfish reason to lose weight?

I think it's hard to say whether there really is a right or wrong reason. Fat or not, everyone wants to feel healthy, look good and feel comfortable with themselves. As long as you don't push it too far and are never really satisfied even after you've reached your dream goal, you should be fine. People try so hard to be different that they end up doing more harm than good. As long as you keep it healthy, any reason is good enough if it motivates you to get what you want. :)

Everyone has different weight goals. Don't think that there's a good reason and a bad reason, because your body is up to you. You decided how you want to look. As for me, I'd love to look like Holly Beck, pro surfer and diver. I want to be tan, and in fine shape. It probably means dropping at least 10 pounds (not sure), but the results are what its all about. If you want to look toned, go for it. Who is stopping you? Some people think its conceited  that you wanna look hot, but deep down, if they're on this website, they definitely want to look hot too, so don't even worry about that.

Just focus on you and your goals, stick to them, and you'll be fine [:
