Righty Ho, Back on the Wagon.

OK, I have interviews coming up, and cannot afford to look like a crazy person.

So I'm trying to get back on the wagon.

I just want to re-ask some base line questions if I may.

1)I know that one should stop exercise at all when one is in recovery, and I did so too first time round, as I have an addictive relationship with exercise.  However, until October I'm a full time waitress, I work 6pm to 1 am most evenings, and 1 days a week as well.  I can't stop this, I'm an MA student, alas I need any sort of disposable income I can get.  I also do Ashtanga yoga twice a week but whatever you say you haven't a hope in hell of getting me to give that up because that is the only thing keeping me sane.  Anyway, I digress.  My question is this: should I then eat on top of the 2500 recommended to gain?

2) Because this is my second bite at the apple, with the effects of refeeding be different?  Will I go into hypermetabolism again?  Or will I need less calories to gain because I'm not at such a low weight anymore?

3) As I'm not at such a low weight, has my metabolism gone completely crazy?  Have I screwed it up forever?

4)As I waitress, I have to eat at odd times.  Does it matter when I eat, as long as I eat?

Thank you for any responses.  I am trying my hardest once again, and although its difficult, as it is for all of us I'm doing my best.  I'm doing this on my own, which makes it somewhat difficult, also I have no one to hold me accountable.

Also, in the restaurant the other night we had this big party of american tourists in: grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, 2 daughters (one with a face like a smacked arse), and 2 sons.  All ordered cokes and as I was carrying them over this little **** of an 11 year old boy stuck out his foot and TRIPPED ME!  On Purpose!! and his parents smiled indulgently and LAUGHED.  I felt like smacking the little twit half way to nowhere.  Why do people feel the need to treat waitresses like ****?

That was a change of subject, anyone else find themselves really good at that when people try to discuss their eating habits?!

Hi. I am sorry you struggled again but am glad you are getting back into recovery. I know as a past waitress at your age how much activity that is. I understand the finance issue but is there any other type of job you could do? If not yes I think oyou will need way more then 2500. You put many miles on your legs doing this job. It does not matter so to speak in terms of gain when you eat but in terms of energy you will have more and feel better. Can you take breaks or bring things like pb sandwich that is quick? As for refeeding metablsim I have had many attempts at recovery in the past and it has varied so greatly. Only time can tell so what I encourage you to do is focus on today and what you need to do. What is your weight and calorie level now? Is there any way you can get support? If not try to remind yourself the most important person to be accountable to is you. This is your life and you deserve to be well. If you want a buddy I am an email away. What is the job interview for and when? That is exciting though I know can cause some fear. I had smeone do that to be waitressing but it was a teen to maybe even young adult. I had a whle tray go flying. Hang in there

ATM I'm 5"11 and I think 57 kg, In July my highest weight was 62 kg, and my worst, about a year ago was 45kg. I guess I'm just asking about refeeding syndrome second time round and whether its any different, and whether the higher weight makes any difference: I'm not sure I could cram in 3500 a day again.

Also at the restaurant one of the problems is I work in a proper Spanish restaurant - all the people I work with are these petite, effortlessly chic Spanish women and sometimes I feel like this gangly blonde giant who's managed to infiltrate their community.  And we tend to do a lot of tequila, which really screws me up because although I know its empty calories its still calories to me.  We do get breaks, but because of the popularity of the restaurant we barely have time to get a drink yet alone eat, so I'm stuck from about 6 to about 1.  It's fun but it makes me weary!  At least my Spanish is getting really good!

Theo! My Heart!!

  • refeeding - to tell you the truth i have beat around the bush to the point that, if i make sure i stay hydrated, refeeding/bloating was only an issue that first bout with recovery. However, i feel ive only really gone recovery gung-ho once so im not going to give you a hard-and-fast rule. Howev's i will remind you that it passes whatever happens and is not a big deal at all. If anything its going to help you that your working since you have something you can focus on other than your weight.
  • As with getting the food in and everything i would say think of your body like a car. When your low on gas you stop for a fill up and i usually top off the tank (they say not to but i dont care), i so this so i can drive for a good long while and eventually, maybe not all in a day, but eventually all the gas gets used up. I can put more gas in it whenever i want to and its going to keep running. Babe, your driving a Jag.... not only do you need to fuel up that bad boy but i think it needs some high quality petrol... of at least a stop at the chippy.
