my ring finger is fat...
so my b'f of 5 yrs has been dropping hints about asking to marry me. Well I just checked my ring size so I can "mention" it to him and my ring size is an 8.5. that depresses me a little. I know a womans ring size is average a 7 but still.
what is everyone eles's ring size?
I don't know what mine is, but I haven't been able to wear my wedding ring for about 6 years - looking forward to skinnier fingers!
well I measured my finger w. a print out size thing from zales so maybe its worng... doubt it. I had my high school class ring sized to my ring finger but I cant remember the size. I dont even know if it still fits..
I think I remember my class ring being about an 8.5. It was on my ring finger, but has moved to my pointer finger, so my ring finger's probably a 7 1/2 or 8 now. You're not alone.
How did you determine your ring size? It seems fairly big for someone of your height and weight. The paper-based tests are fairly worthless, and the best way to determine is to use a ring sizer, like they use at jewelry stores.
As for me, I wear a slightly snug size 7. My husband, who is close to the same height and weight as me, wears an 8.5. It has very little to do with fat and thin, mainly just bone size, and, if it turns out that you are an 8.5 there is absolutely no point in feeling bad about the way you were made.
yea I used the paper method. I will try on some plain jane rings at a store one day or maybe try my moms rings on. But I am big boned. I cant even get my index and ring finger around my wrist all the way unless I really pinch.
Mine is in between 6.5/7. My engagement ring is a 7. Fits well now but will be a bit loose in winter.
Most of the rings in jewelry stores if you go try on are a 7 - that is their "sample" size. That is more accurate than the ring sizers that they loop around your finger. Those do not measure accurately (that's been our experience looking at both engagement wings, and wedding bands for men/women).
I am also big boned/large framed and pinch to get my middle finger to meet my thumb, around my wrist.
Don't feel badly, everyone is different. My mom's ring size is like a 10 or something but her fingers do not look fat. She has large hands for a woman and she's in proportion.
Different types of rings will flatter the shape of your hands and fingers. Just try on lots of different things till you find something you like and give the BF a hint. My mom had her ring made and it's gorgeous and unique (it's two pieces that fit together with a diamond in the center of each piece - hard to describe). I like mine because it has sapphires in it and it's very personal and unique to me too :)))
Good luck and congrats!
I have freakishly skinny fingers :(
If I remember correctly size 5 is a bit loose on me. I don't even bother with rings anymore, I always lose them.
^ ahaha me too! I keep asking myself how am I going to wear a ring every day? I have a thumb ring that is big cause it was actually from my b'fs late aunts collection. Right now that ring is still in my suit case from vacation. oops.
yea I know my grandmother had big fingers. I think thats where I get if from. I inherited her wedding rings when she passed away.
I think a thick band would work. A thin one would make my finger look chubby.
My ring is a 5. It was pretty loose when I got it, likely because it was during the winter. It fits me pretty well right now, but it could stand to be a teeny bit smaller :]
When I was in Greece I wanted to get a pretty ring from this jewelry store, I had to try on almost every ring they had there to find one small enough! I think it might be a 4.5, it seems smaller than my size 5 ring.
It sucks have suck small fingers... most rings only go as small as a 5! :[

^^ Me too! My ring finger is a 4.5/5 and my sister-in-law described my hands as "freakishly small". At least one (or technically two) things on me can be described that way! LOL
Please don't feel bad. My engagement ring is a size 11 and my wedding ring is a size 10. I have abnormally large hands, and feet! They are both getting looser though, as I lose weight (thankfully), but even when I was 80 pounds lighter, I was still a size 8.5.
April_bride: my engagement ring is a sappire with two smaller diamonds. I love it so much. My husband picked it out because he says it matches my eyes.

That's beautiful! My fiance also had the sapphire idea and honestly, I was kind of against it until we found something that I love -- we actually found two things I liked and he made the final, surprise decision. My middle name is Blue (like the color) which is why he wanted sapphires and was very passionate about that idea. It had never occurred to me. It makes me feel good and unique :)) Mine is a mix of sapphires and diamonds and has a vintage-y vibe to it with milgrain all around. Love it!!
To be sure, I suggest stopping by a jewelry store. Most of them have sizers that you can try on to see what ring size you are. It's more accurate than trying the paper thing.
good luck!
My rings are a 5 1/2 which is actually kinda big on my hand. I'd like to have them sized down to a half notch. I'm barely 5'2/small frame. My index and ring finger over-lap my wrist a lot. I'd suggest using the metal ring sizer at local jewelry store too.
Best wishes!
( By the way a lot of people actually buy the stock size. Anyway:It's simple. He can just buy the stock size. Then you guys can have them re-sized. My husband couldn't get mine in my size. He already knew that I wore a 5 or a 5 1/2. However: They didn't carry those sizes in the store. He would've had to wait for them to arrive by order. He opted to buy the stock size available. They sized them for me later at no extra charge...I wonder if they would do it again for free. Lol!)
My boyfriend has given me a couple of rings over the past year. Most of them are size 8, but they're all a little too big. I'd say I'm probably about 7.5, then. Which is kind of small, considering that's my ring size at 200 pounds and 5'6". I suspect it'll be smaller about 40-50 pounds from now. I have a small frame.
An 8 1/2 is not so unusual of a ring size. All of our stores, and probably most regular jewelry stores, offer the first sizing for free. As nice as it would be to slide the ring on your finger in that perfect proposal moment, it is wiser to get your finger properly sized at the store. If they judge the size wrong, they will have to size it right for free. If you tell them a size and it is wrong, you will be paying (roughly$25+) to have it sized up.
Wider bands also have to be larger to fit. A simple 2mm solitaire might fit at an 8 and a 6mm band would fit at closer to a 8 1/2.
I have sized rings up to as much as a 15 for women. 8 1/2 is actually a very common size. (I should know after 10 years
)
3 3/4
My ring is a 7. It's odd, I'm obese yet my hands, wrists to elbow, feet and ankle are all thin.
It's weird!
7 is not thin.
It's average.
