I think tonight will be DVD night with some of the best of Carlin.
*sigh*
Some of my best memories was watching George with my dad on Saturday nights..
Not my favorite comedian ever (that's Robin Williams), but one of the best. A god among comedians.
Right now, he's probably hanging our with Buddy Christ going "Listen guys, you should have seen the **** I had to entertain in my last gig."
I was sad to learn of his death this morning as well--his comedy was a big part of my teen years (along with Cheech and Chong). Isn't it funny, how learning of the death of an icon of your past can feel almost like learning of the death of a friend? I feel like I did when I learned Isaac Asimov and George Harrison had died.![]()
I was sad to hear the news this morning. I actually got to see him live a few years ago and that man is a riot! He will be missed.
I grew up with his comedy and never missed an HBO special. My hubby still quote lines from his "stuff" and airplane routines. A man who truly influenced comedy, made us laugh at the ridiculousness of the human condition, and challenged the status quo.
"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately." (G. Carlin)
You will be missed. ![]()
I loved George Carlin. He was one of the funniest comedians I've ever heard. He will be missed. :(
I remember him from Shining Time Station - actually haven't seen much of his comedy.
I've loved his comedy and him from the first time I heard him in junior high school. I'm terribly sorry to hear of his passing.
RUFUSSSSSS!!!!!! He absolutely made bill and ted. His role as the Cardinal in Dogma, The George Carlin Show, Thats how I knew George Carlin the best, I wasn't even alive when he was doing the Merv Griffin show and the stand up stuff everyone loves so much.
He was definatly one of my favorite people on earth. Damm it, I thought I was done crying. Well this is stupid. Crying over a man I never even met. This has not been a good year. Daddy and Keith Ledger die on the same day then Tim Russert now George Carlin, I wonder whose going to be next. Maybe they all knew something we don't and are getting the hell out of dogde while they still can.
my little tribute:
"Get on the plane, that's what they tell you... get on the plane. F*** that! I'm getting IN the plane, let Evil Knievel get ON the plane. I'll be inside with you people in uniform, you see to know where to be."
Sigh,
We'll miss ya Carlin!
WHAT? How, when? I didn't hear!! Wow, I just looked it up... heart failure. well, he will certainly be missed...
I am sorry to hear of his passing.
But as a comedian, he wasn't one of my favorites.
Original Post by George Carlin:
May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your doorstep.
George, you will be missed. ![]()
Loved the fact that he told it like it is and wasn't afraid to offend anyone.
I cried my eyes out. We missed him last fall and had saved for his show this September. So sad that I'll never get to see his standup live.
My favorite.
I was very saddened to learn the news as well... and 71 isnt really terribly old either! He was a great comedian, and I also remember him as the voice on Thomas the Train when my son used to watch! It was so funny watching him as that tiny little man on that show- kept expecting him to slip up and say something he shouldnt! lol- Everytime I watched one of his performances I laughed so hard I would have tears running down my face.. Such a shame he is gone.
