"When most Democrats sought to fend off the 'liberal label, the senior senator from Massachusetts wore it proudly." [washington post]

so, so, so sad to read the news.  He will definitely be missed.

Another RIP from me.

He lived his life to the fullest ... Rest In Peace.... what a life!

New York Times Obituary

He led a flawed life, but ended up gaining respect by his deeds.

RIP Senator.

Yes, it seems like the end of an era.  He will be missed.  Thanks for starting the thread jewels.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.  Bon Voyage Senator!

Stolen from a friend on FB. He said it better than I even could.

We have lost a true American hero. A man who saw no color boundries. A man who thought women and children should be FULLY covered by insurance, no matter the situation. A man who, to his death bed, believed univeral health care was a universal huma...n right. In particular, he believed that I was a human being, of dignity and worth, even if I was gay. You will be missed Senator because those are some big shoes to fill.

With so many tributes today, this one by VP Biden may get lost as its a little lengthy...but its the most beautiful I heard today and very personal. Totally brought tears to my eyes!  Here's a link for anyone interested.

(the tribute part begins at around 1:52)

As someone who grew up in Massachusetts, all I can say is that I loved telling opponents of earmarking that I was all for it.

I have to acknowledge the passing of Sen. Ted Kennedy. He was not a perfect man and he had many indiscetions but he spent his career fighting for ALL working class Americans even though he came from privilege. He was a key component in the Civil Rights movement. I teared up yesterday because he really impacted the lives of millions.

My fiance said that when he worked on Capitol Hill a lot of Senators would not speak to him or they would speak and keep walking. I mean seriously, you can't speak to a man in uniform that obeys the directives that your legislation passes? Anyway, he said one day Sen. Kennedy came up to him, shook his hand, and engaged him in a 20 min. conversation. That was the kind of person that he was. I pray for his family during their time of grief. I hope that his passing is the spark that lights a fire under Congress to honor his legacy and finally reform healthcare in this country.
