My friends here on CC who read my Sunday morning journal entries know that I make it a point to get up early on Sunday morning just to watch Meet the Press - I am not a news junkie by any means and MTP and Saturdays "Hard Ball with Chris Mathews" were my way to catch up on politcal news for the week.

I know for one - I am going to miss Mr Russert.

I never liked the guy but I'm sorry he died so young. Geez, only 58!
I have been a political junkie for decades. As with sports athletes, these are people who enter your home on a daily or weekly basis via the television or radio, and over the years they become part of my "political family" or my "sports family".  So I shed a tear yesterday for his sudden loss.  We'll miss ya, Tim...

I think we lost one of the more balanced reporters -- it is a shame

I enjoyed his commentary on politics on the other news shows...couldn't catch Meet the Press on Sunday mornings. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy from what I could tell and now from the eulogies.

He WAS very young to die in that way and it truly scares me. He was intelligent and wealthy so I think it's fair to assume he had excellent medical care. This morning they said the lesson is to get rid of belly fat. My own DH has a very large belly, takes medication for his naturally borderline cholesterol (it works, his #'s are good), exercises little, and has episodes of low blood sugar. We've only been married for two years and I feel like I've finally found my soul mate. I'm about to turn 50 and he's 51. I know no one can do much about someone else's weight and lifestyle but I'm very worried. I hope I can use this as a vehicle to start a conversation AND some action. Has anyone been able to do this with a loved one? Advice would be appreciated!

I was really looking forward to watching him during the election this November :(
Me too!!! I was so looking forward to his balanced reporting throughout this (long) election season.  His excitement for politics and for the process was infectious and it will be missed greatly.
Going to miss Tim, elections won't be the same without him. I always watched him on Sunday morning.
