Ritter Sport

Sport?  Sport chocolate?  Cruel sounding name, I know... who would create such an allusion as to associate chocolates with sports... as if the chocolate were like exercizing.  The advertisements even show people playing sports.  Maybe the idea is that... we play sports and then we eat the chocolate?  Yeah... right.

The Germans did it.  Ritter Sport is a very popular brand of German Chocolate.  It's a soft chocolate case--delicious high quality (high fat content, too) square chocolate shell, filled  with all sorts of t hings.   They have a cappucino flavor, almond flavors, hazelnut flavors, strawberry yogurt, coconut, you name it!  There is supposed to be one for every personality, and I do believe there is.

For my personality?  It's a dark milk chocolate shell (%40) filled with what essentially tastes like nutella.  And nutella is one of those things I just have to ignore when I pass it in the store.  I can 't eat hazelnuts plain, but combined with  chocolate... oh baby.

They come in a nice mini-size that everyone would want to have 50 of... or a big bar.  And of course, all my cousins love it and one of them even works for the company.  Sheesh.  Thank God this stuff is special order in the US!

Here's a full list of flavors:

Vollmilch – Plain milk chocolate

Dunkle Vollmilch – Plain medium dark chocolate, 40% cacao

Halbbitter – Plain dark chocolate, 50% cacao

Edelbitter – Plain dark chocolate, 71% cacao

Knusperkeks – Chocolate filled with a biscuit

Pfefferminz – Chocolate with peppermint

Joghurt – Yogurt

Erdbeer Joghurt – Milk chocolate strawberry and yogurt filling

Voll-Nuss – Milk chocolate with whole hazelnuts

Dunkle Voll-Nuss – Dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts

Weiße Voll-Nuss – White chocolate with whole hazelnuts

Knusperflakes – Milk chocolate with corn flakes

Voll Erdnuss – Milk chocolate with whole peanuts

Ganze Mandel – Milk chocolate with whole almonds

Marzipan – Dark chocolate with marzipan center

Cocos – Milk chocolate with flakes of coconut in the center

Trauben-Nuss – Milk chocolate with raisins and hazelnut pieces

Rum Trauben Nuss – Milk chocolate with rum-soaked raisins and hazelnut pieces

Cappuccino – Milk chocolate and cappuccino cream

Alpenmilch – Special milk chocolate with high milk proportion

Nugat – Milk chocolate with hazelnuts nougat center

Feinherb à la Mousse au Chocolat – dark chocolate filled with chocolate mousse

Williams Birne Truffel – dark chocolate filled with pear brandy mousse

Haselnuss – Milk chocolate with hazelnuts

Other interesting facts: although they aren't certified free trade or organic, they do use processes that would  easily be certified by our government as such.  The square shape of the bar is so one can put it into his or her coat pocket without breaking it.

When I get married I want my cake tiled in these.  Foot in mouth

Bad news -- they are not special order in the US.  I can find them in any military commissary or exchange -- but you can also get them at the neighborhood Safeway...

Just warning you Innocent
