I got my road bike and . . .
So I got my road bike and the first day I take it out for a long ride (we were going on our second hour of riding) I hit some bad road that was making me loose control and went to merge onto the little concrete gutter where my tire got stuck in the crack between concrete and asphalt. I complretly lost control and my tire hit the curb and I flew over my handle bars and split my chin open where I got six stitches and I cannot ride the bike until they are out on weds! LOL
way to break in the new bike aye? haha
well it was really fun besdies the crash! It takes me 26 minutes to get to school and about 40 to get back (since it is mostly uphill) My school is nearly 6 miles from the starting point (bottom of the mountain I live on)! After we did the initial ride from the start point to school and almost to the start point we just decided to ride around town which was mostly flat but there werent bike lanes. When we went on this one road the was crowded with cars there was nowhere to go but the bad road (asphalt that looked as if it was raked with a heavy duty steal rake) or the concrete gutter. . .where I ate it! Second time I have split open my chin though : (. But I LOVE the ride
I got a 58 cm Fuji road bike for 85 dollars off of craigs list! Then I spent 99$ on tuning it up and buying new cables, chain, water bottle holder, and a rack. But I am super stoked to be a comuter.
Thanks for everyone who responded to my last post inquiring about road bikes!
edit:
Also I have health insurance so the ER visit only cost my mom 25 dollars and I got a bed about 20 minutes after I arrived! They also perscribed me vicodin and ibuprofen. Saturday was kind of fun, I just layed around and played rock band: The beatles edition and watched movies. I am bummed that I can't do anything active until the stiches are out though : (
Sorry to hear about your accident, chica! You know what they say. The best thing to do when you fall off the bike is get back on again! I'm sure the cut on your chin will give you character :-) Heal well (and fast)!!!
Congrats on the bike! :D Glad you found a good one. Good thing you aren't afraid to get back to riding :]
It's great that you're so upbeat after your crash - doesn't sound like it's going to stop you from getting "back in the saddle". Good for you.
I just wanted to add that I'm proud of scars I achieve through exercise and being "sporty". It makes me feel tough (if you knew me, you'd find that hilarious).
btw - this is not meant to encourage people to purposely hurt themselves - getting hurt...well, it hurts
.
Hey.
Congrats on getting a bike. Crashes happen it how we deal with them is what matters. Have a speedy recovery. :)

Thanks guys!
I did a successful and crash free commute to school yesterday, (12 miles round trip!). A total of an hour and twenty minutes of riding. . . I am still slow going up the "big hill" that is on the way home from school. Nothins going to stop me! A guy in the school cafeteria asked me what I did to my chin and after telling him it was from crashing my road bike he said "oh wow, well thanks for reminding me I am a guy. I think I should go cut off the tip of my ear now to match up to you". It was funny and totally random.
That is the kind of attitude that gets you ahead in life. Keep it up! ![]()
