I will be going out of town with some friends tomorrow and I wanna bring some healthy snacks to eat in the car. I know we'll probably be stopping and eating at fast food places and i don't wanna overeat on Big Macs or something lol.

So I need healthy and fullfilling snacks and smart choices at fast food places?

Any idea?

last time i went on a road trip I brought a salmon and spinach wrap with me for lunch instead of buying something.  Plan ahead and take a little cooler and put in some yogurts, nuts (pre portioned out.. having a huge bag of nuts to much on spells overeating to me!), cup up veggies/fruit, hard boiled eggs (peeled), rice cakes, granola bars.  You don't necc have to eat it in the car either, take the cooler into the rest stop with you.  You'll save money and have healthy choices!

If you go the fast food route you can plan ahead by looking up cals.. most rest stops have the same 10 or so food chains..

There's a few fast food meals that I don't mind too much

Subway: Anything from the fresh fit menu. Forgo the chips and have a yogurt or apples instead

McDonalds: Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad. It's 420 calories of pretty darn goodness. They also have a Oriental Grilled Chicken that's not bad. Their ice cream cones are also only 150 calories for a small. Hamburger from there is 280.

Chick-Fil-A - They have a grilled chicken sandwich that's half way decent. No sauce, just use ketchup. Get a side of fruit and a coke zero or diet dr pepper.

If you are out with friends that are eating out, just ask for a nutrition menu. Most fast food places have them. Don't be embarrassed by wanting to eat healthy around your friends either. Maybe it'll rub off on them.

And you can totally mention a "hey, lets save some cash by packing our lunch, stopping off at a great view point along the way to eat and take pictures" <-- they might go for it. Then you can pack anything. Just bring a cooler :)

^Check out that thread for healthy fast food options. Some good stuff on there. For snacks on the road I like Kashi bars and 100 calorie packs. If you're bringing a cooler you can bring string cheese and stuff like that. Pickles are really really low in calories. I snack on them a lot.

It all depends on whether you're bringing a cooler or not.  If so, fresh fruit salad, string cheese, yogurt, carrots, etc.  If not, Luna bars, apples, turkey jerky.

for something fast and easy to snack on if your craving salty would is ranch rice cakes they are yummy! and something sweet fiber one oats & chocolate..Might not be as healty as fruits and veggies but its alot healthy then all the big Wink mac's

Yes, I really really like the Fiber One bars!

On car trips, I love to have a bag of something I can keep pounding back (especially on the Greyhound...sooooo bored!). My weaknesses-slash-former roadtrip essentials: peanut M&Ms, pringles or chex mix, gummi bears. Any suggestions on replacements? Want it to be a small-sized food that I can dip in to throughout the trip (so many snacks are just gone too fast!).
