I leave on a 7 hour roadtrip tomorrow and practically drive all day on Sunday.

Does anyone have anytips on staying healthy on roadtrips when your family all gets junk food and junk snacks?

Last roadtrip I ate around 3,000-3,500 calories and don't want to do that again!

I've done a lot of road trips and as for snacks I finally just packed veggies with salsa or something like that in a cooler so I don't pig out at gas stations. Either that or fiber one / protein bars. Hope that helps!
granola bars! rice crackers, bake low-cal cupcakes, drink diet sodas to make you feel bloated so you can tell the difference between hunger and boredom snacking

Thank you so much pud and xhelena. I will probably take your advice and pack protein bars and veggies in a cooler!

If anyone else has any idea I would love them!

String cheese.  You can pack it in a cooler, or they sell it at most gas stations so you can get it fresh.

Gas stations also sometimes have bananas, apples, oranges, and boxes of raisins (usually you'll find these on a stand near the register.)  You could easily just bring these things with you--I'm just suggesting things you could snack on in a pinch on the road.

I also like to make single serving snack packs of crackers like wheat thins or Kashi TLC crackers.  (Hint--break the TLC crackers in half so that they last twice as long.)  You could also bring a single serving of nuts in a baggie.  Just don't bring a whole container because it's easy to snack constantly on a long trip!  And nuts are so addicting! (Yet full of fiber and protein, so they are a good choice.)

Or you could air-pop some popcorn and bring it with you.  Popcorn without oil is extremely low-cal!  You could munch on it forever while you drive.  Add a small sprinkle of parmesan or just a pinch of salt for a little extra flavor.

Of course almost every exit has a Subway if you need to stop for lunch.  You could get a 6" veggie or turkey sub on whole wheat.  Skip the cheese and high-fat dressing to save even more calories.  Get some baked chips and a diet soda, and you have a pretty healthy lunch!  Or you could even bring your own sandwich stuff in a cooler (whole wheat bread, low-cal lunch meats, veggies, hummus) and assemble your own sandwiches so you could control the calorie content better.

I could probably keep going forever, but hopefully these suggestions will help some!  Be safe!

Probably not the best thing for our teeth, but I like to crunch ice.  The gas stations has small or chipped ice as part of their soda machines....and I'm willing to pay for a cup of ice.  It gives me water, makes me full and helps the boredom!

Let us know how you do!
