Roll Call (OPEN) Small Group (Approx. 20) Age 30's-Plus to lose & stay motivated through June 15, 2009
I did my best with a group for motivation and challenges back in August. I pretty much fell off the wagon and I am ready to start anew in 2009.
Please consider joining this small group (Approximately 20 people) who are in their 30's-Plus to lose & stay motivated through June 15, 2009.
Week 1 - Introduce yourselves and thereafter, weigh-in and a new challenges each week.
I will join, I am a 32 yr. old mom of 4. I hope to be close to my goal weight by June so this will be perfect. I have been on CC since 1/16/09 so I will begin from there. I usually weigh in on Tuesdays with the biggest loser show.
1/16/09: (179 lbs.)
1/20/09: (174 lbs.)
Goal weight: (135 lbs.)
Total lbs. lost: (5 lbs.)
Iam glad you are getting off the bad food wagon. Hope you get to exercise soon.
I think we should all have a challenge of some sort. Like do some kind of exercise, stretching, yoga, walking, whatever for at least 20 minutes a day for a week and see if that get us all started/motivated. Because it seems that many of us are looking at our exercise equipment, the gym or the fact that we need to exercise and cringing.
I think a challenge will get us going. What do you think? 20 minutes a day for a week ? any other ideas?

Hi all and welcome to the newbies ![]()
I have been doing fairly well with the calorie counting but did not loose any thing this week so still at 189. I have not been able to exercise other than parking farther away than I need and taking the steps whenever available. I need to get back on the regular exercise wagon and hoping to do so this week.
I like the idea of a challenge for the exercise and 20 min a day should be realistic.

Does anyone know the correct RDA of sugar? I pretty much understand how to watch fat content, but not so clear on sugar. I somehow got 40 grams somewhere, and I consume way more than that, but now I have seen a formula that says it should be 10% of your calorie consumption. So, if my calorie consumption is 1350, then my sugar intake should be 135 g? That seems high, especially compared to 40. If it's true, then I am in good shape, as I have never come close to 135. Another question is this measurement for added sugar only, or does it include natural sugars?
I am on day 4 of staying more or less near my calorie target. What if you go way over, like at a party or something? Is there any way to eradicate this? I assume exercise more the next day, but does that really work?
I'm still not 100% sure if I'm doing this calorie deficit thing right??? Is the top number how many calories you have burned for the day and the bottom how many you should eat to keep your deficit at 500??? I don't want to sound stupid but I'm still a bit confused, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx~~Sam
Hi Sam--
well, if it is any consolation, I don't even know what you are talking about--what is the "calorie deficit thing"? I am curious to see the answer to your question above. Hope someone answers!
Kim
Ok, I have a plan now for myself. I am really bad at snacking at night time (between dinner and bedtime). If I do cross-stitch, my hands are occupied and I can't exactly eat anything while I'm doing it. Plus I went ice skating with my kids yesterday. My son is just learning, so I had to hold him up. Lifting 40lbs for an hour...there's a workout. :) Boy are my arms sore today.
Week 1: 158 (Starting weight) (1/13)
Week 2: 157 (1/19)
Week 3: 156 (1/26)
Hi everyone! I hope everyone is doing well. I weighed in today and I lost 1.5 pounds. I am going to push myself even harder this week to work out harder. I have been trying to put in at least 1/2 hour on the eliptical trainer and I have accomplished that every day except one this week. I would like to kick it up to 40 minutes every day this week. As for the calorie deficit, correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm not 100% sure, but I think the meter tells you how many you have currently burned as of today and the "total estimate" tells you how many your body will burn that day (on average) with any activity you have added. So I would imagine at the end of the day you would subtract the eat meter amount from the burn meter amount and that is your deficit (the extra calories you burned and did not consume). I am aiming for a daily 800 calorie deficit. Hope that helps.
Well, I'm here and I weighed in at 233 today. That's only a 1/2 lb loss! But, no big surprise.. I had a weekend filled with too much of the wrong foods, so I'm surprised I didn't gain, actually. I'm hoping for a good number next week.
It was great to get out and walk a few days this week but it's now too cold to take the baby out again so I'll have to make do otherwise until I can get out again! But we walked for the 3 straight days and it was fun and great all around! :)
Everyone seems to be looking good overall! Working on my budget.. gtg~

Hey all, just did my weekly weigh-in and I lost another 5 lbs! !7 lbs so far this year. I worked out 6 days a week this week and I can really feel the difference. Focusing on June 15th!
thanks for the reminder about needlework at night to keep thehands busy--I have the same problem--snacking too much at night. My husband doesn't help as he has a king size Snickers every night. I need to get him to do this with--he needs to drop about 25.
I used to needlepoint at night and it really worked. Some way I stopped and I will start up again--thanks again for the reminder.
I need to work out more, but I really messed my knee up in a brisk walk last week. I did not go to the gym today to give my knee a rest, but plan on it tomorrow. I also have my first weigh-in tomorrow and I am nervous. Actually, it's after 12 so I really mean today.
I forgot that this is a June 15 group. I gave my goal as 100--obviously not by June 15. Perhaps a year from June 15. At any rate, my goal for June 15 is 30 lbs.
Hello Kim .. I have about 100 to lose now, too. I'm at 233 lbs now and will probably get to about 140 again and see what I need to do from there. Being this weight (and much more before!) I was thinking about nips and tucks and I don't think I'm going to need any kind of reconstructive surgey, except maybe a tummy tuck. If I do need it will be 'minor' compared to many. But with 6 pregnancies, some very back to back, it'll never be flat again without a bit of help!! But we'll see.. my hubby is fine with the way I look and doesn't point out these things as any kind of turn-off (amazingly!) no matter what condition I was in. He's really great in that way.. I don't give him enough credit for backing me no matter what I've looked like. (hmm.. food for thought for me there)
Congratulations Minlyn for going for working out so many times. That is Great! You are inspiring me. I worked out yesterday & today, hoping for the best tomorrow.
COngratulations to Gumboux too, 5lbs is great. I have my weigh in tomorrow. Will see where will the scale stop.
holy crap--I lost five pounds. I am genuinely surprised.
Re surgery--I once consulted with a surgeon and he was so sweet--he said--this is not for people with serious weight problems, but for people slightly overweight who need a "nip and tuck." You would have to lose a lot before we could consider you for this surgery. I left feeling so great. NOT!
Hello all......weighed in yesterday and lost 1lb. But, I'm happy with it at least I lost something!!!! Next week will be a bigger week. Here are my stats for the week:
1/16/09 - (179)
1/27/09 - (173)
Goal weight- (135)
Lbs.lost so far- (6)
Keep up the good work everybody!!!!!!
Hi all,
Have been lurking again but not posting. Did not do well at all this week and weighed in yesterday a pound up. Considering what I ate I think it could have been much worse so I count myself lucky.
You all sound like you are really in the groove with this. Maybe it will rub off on me. Keep up all the hard work!
Jen

no one checks in on weekends, eh? I blew it yesterday. My stupid husband bought a bunch of crap for the Super Bowl and I exercized poor self control. Oh well--today is a new day.
I weighed in this morning and I lost 2 pounds! I was a little worried becase I didn't get to work out as much as I wanted this week because I was sick. Well, I guess the work outs I did payed off.
Week 1 (1/12): 178.5
This week (2/2): 172
GW: 145
Yeah!
