Roll Call (OPEN) Small Group (Approx. 20) Age 30's-Plus to lose & stay motivated through June 15, 2009
I did my best with a group for motivation and challenges back in August. I pretty much fell off the wagon and I am ready to start anew in 2009.
Please consider joining this small group (Approximately 20 people) who are in their 30's-Plus to lose & stay motivated through June 15, 2009.
Week 1 - Introduce yourselves and thereafter, weigh-in and a new challenges each week.
Hello all ~ We've been traveling, sick, and now Valentine's weekend. Plus I'm bloated now so I'm not weighing in this week :) lol There's no point to do so! It'll definately be a gain and I don't need to see that right now!!! Hopefully I'll start to feel better and eat better, too :) I have gotten some exercise in with doing several hours of raking and shoveling plus hours of walking, too, so at least that was good! Good luck everyone!
Well I'm in for the 5 days of workout. 2 down so far and tomorrow I will be at the gym again. Thursday and Friday are going to be tougher as I am headed to Mardi Gras. Hopefully I can get some good walking in, because I don't think I will be able to hit the gym. Avoiding the calories will be the bigger challenge.
I was thinking about not weighing in too because I have not had a very disciplined week--Valentine's Day did not help, but generally speaking, I just blew off Calorie Count. This has always been my problem--I get off to a good start, and then falter after a couple of weeks. I have not been able to work out due to my knee, and I need to see an orthopedist, but I have no insurance so I must rely on these clinics (unemployed for 2 years). So, I was afraid to weigh in, but I thought that would just help me not face the consequences of my eating. So I weighed in and I have gained 4 pounds in a week. Discouraging, but I have HAVE to keep trying. Overall have only made a 3 pound dent since I started a month ago, but I have to keep reminding myself that I have to take those "baby steps." DOn;t know if I will hit the 30 pd target, but will keep trying.
Does anyone know the correct RDA of sugar? I pretty much understand how to watch fat content, but not so clear on sugar. I somehow got 40 grams somewhere, and I consume way more than that, but now I have seen a formula that says it should be 10% of your calorie consumption. So, if my calorie consumption is 1350, then my sugar intake should be 135 g? That seems high, especially compared to 40. If it's true, then I am in good shape, as I have never come close to 135. Another question is this measurement for added sugar only, or does it include natural sugars?
Hi everyone! My names Jett and I would love to join your group. I just turned 40 and joined cC last year. My top weight was 237 and I'm 5'7" but I haven't seen that number in a long time. I've managed to drop around 10 pds a yr and am now 185, however the last year or two I've just fluctuated up and down 10 pds. I excercise quite alot, and race bikes and run, however I'm very very slow, I just live in a very active town! I usually check in once a week but I'm a lurker too (tee hee).
Regarding the sugar question, on 1350 cal diet, 10% would be 135 calories not grams, their are 4 calories in 1 gram of sugar, so that equals 34 grams technically. Yes I am a numbers geek, it's my profession actually, haha!
Hi everyone,
I didn't have a good week last week...weight loss-wise. I have managed to stay on top my fitness goals and work out everyday (except last Friday and Saturday) but I didn't lose any weight as of Monday when I weighed in. I think it was Valentine's day and my anniversary that did me in. I ate out too much. I am on track this week however and I think I will have a good weight loss this week. By the way, welcome Jett69.
Welcome Jett. I guess everyone blew it last weekend. Me too. I think the Wine did me in. No gain though! But no lost either. Anyways, I am back on track!
A reminder to myself and to all: It took us a while to get here and will take us a while to get back! But we need to keep taking the steps to get where we want to go. So in my case I will step into the Gym and out of the kitchen. (Easier said than done :)
Hello and welcome Jett :)
I've had a crazy 2 weeks and I'm hoping to get things under control with all of my family's health and just eat well amidst all the stress! That's a big factor with me: stress eating!
I'm off to the Dr for my baby daughter's appt to see if she has Strep throat. Poor thing seems miserable so I hope maybe something can come of it! I'm just thankful that we have Drs to help us compared to so many other around the world! We are blessed!
Have a nice weekend all - Spring weather is coming and it's always easier to get out and burn energy when it's beautiful outside. Plus, the time change in 2 weeks will help with more time in the evening to do yardwork and go walking after dinner! :)
God bless all and I hope to see at least a maintenance, if not a loss on Monday for me! It'll take a miracle seeing what I've already eaten this week!
~ Steph
I see that no one weighed on Monday, including me! I knew it would be higher than I wanted and I'm a big chicken about it all, lol.
But I weigh last night and I'm 234.5. It was 236 so at least I'm coming down some but I hope to be 233 by Sunday, March 1st! I have a weigh in somewhere else and that would at least put me back at what I was Feb 1st!! Isn't that awful! I'm the same I was a month ago! But at least I'm not a lot more... I'm feeling bad and frumpy and just too chunky to breathe and move so that's great motivation for me. If only the weather would cooperate I could get back out and walk with my little girls! I love doing that :)
Hope to hear from someone else soon! Don't let the challenge die out!
Yeah, I'm kinda in the same boat. I weighed in today and I have only lost a 1/2 pound, and that is in the last three weeks! I really need to kick it into gear somehow. It's discouraging, however, because I am working out six days a week. I think I have gotten a little "too free" however with my diet and I need to reign it in some. I do really well all week and then blow it on the weekends. My problem is I love to cook and most of the stuff I like to cook is not too healthy. Anyway...I am going to get motivated again. I really need to see a big loss next week.
minlyn, we are in the same boat. I been going to the gym 5 times a week and nothing seems to come off. I think is true, that because I exercise I eat more or the stuff I should nt. But today I had a moment when I was at the eliptical trainer that I hope will change that.
I was at the 20 minutes mark, I was tired and sweating and thinking I rather be in bed when the machine reached the 200 calories. It made me think: It took me 20 minutes to burn off my breakfast! AHHHH!
That is when I realize no more eating stuff that is not healthy and is not on my plan to eat. I make a plan every week (sometimes everyday) of what I will eat for the day. But somehow stuff sneaks in, the staff shows up with a Birthday cake for someone, there is a meeting and refreshments are left on the table for someone to eat or some well meaning person gives you a chocolate bar or half their Potato CHIPS! I need to SAY NO!!! It will cost me 20 minutes in the GYM! LOL!
YES! You completely understand, favoritebook. I usually do the elliptical trainer at the end of the day after I have eaten dinner and seeing those calories on the monitor definitely helps to keep me from snacking after my workout. I think about how hard I have worked to get it off and I am not as easily tempted to snack. The day however is a different story. It is amazing all those little things that have a tendency to sneak in. Like you said, I need to "just say NO!"
TOday in NPR there was a talk about doing mini workouts throughout the day. Maybe instead of running to the fridge we can all try to work out for ten minutes. Is not going to help us loose all the weight but, Here is hoping we dont gain anymore:)
Yay! The scale finally moved...in the right direction! I have been so frustrated because I have been working out like crazy and I have been on a plateau for about 3 weeks. Well, I lost two pounds this week. And the funny thing is that I didn't work out as many times last week as I had been working out. Seems kinda strange to me. But I'm just glad I am losing again. I was beginning to get discouraged but this has helped me to want to kick it into gear.
By the way, how is everyone else doing? It's been kinda quiet on this forum for the last week. Did March come in like a Lion?
Hello Happy to hear about your success Minlyn. I have good news to share too!
I went down two pounds as well. My goal is eight for this month. I think is doable! Been working out 5 times a week at the gym for one hour and twice a week at home. Drinking lots of water, because I feel so dry all the time.
I also lost one inch all around. Except on my byceps that was .5inch. I think is because I cannot work out my arms. (fracture arm) anyways. Still working out!
Just was wondering any suggestions for some warm food that is low in calories that is easy to take pack for lunch. No soups please!
Weighed in yesterday and I was a bit nervous since we went to Mardi Gras last week. But, for the most part, I stayed "good" and worked in a good deal of walking everyday at the parades. Not the workout type of walking but just alot of walking around. Anyway, I am down another 5.6 lbs from my mid-Feb weigh in, so that makes 40.5 lbs for the year so far. Trying to stay focused on June 15th and hoping that I can be "closer" to a 100lb drop by then.
Favorite, as to warm foods, I take along one of the lean cuisine pita or other sandwiches. They are relatively new, but quite tasty and around or less than 300 calories. I take it out of the box and put in a tupperware (guess I shouldn't worry about others knowing I am dieting, but this way causes less discussion). They are easy to heat in a microwave and save time of preparing something in the morning.
Thanks Gumboux. Congratulations on your Loss! Keep Walking it off ! Whatever works!
Weighed in today, another 5.5 lbs. Total of 46.2 lbs so far this year. The weather is getting nicer, so I am combining walks outdoors with visits to the gym. Trying to work in additional "core" workouts along with cardio. Just about 3 months to go until June 15!
Congratulations Gumboux! That's awesome!
I weighed in today too and I lost another 2 pounds. It feels good to be back on track. Working toward the goal and it's closer than ever!![]()
Beginning weight (before this forum): 235
Current Weight: 168
Goal Weight: 150
Minlyn,
Great job, it has to be very pleasing to have your goal so close in sight!!! Keep up the good work.
Hello congratulations to all! Great job at working it out.
No loss this week . But I will not be discourage. Will continue to work out and keep within my calorie intake goal and I will make it. Last week worked out 5 times during the week so that is good and consistent for me. The weight will come off. Positive thinking!
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
