My Roommate Made Cookies---HELP

Quote  |  Reply
Please, someone talk me out of eating chocolate chip cookies. I've got just enough calories for the day left for a small cup of fat-free hot chocolate. PLEASE talk me out of it.

Eat a cookie. BUT not FOUR cookies. Just ONE or TWO. It won't kill you, unless your roomate bakes every day. Just enjoy it.

Go take a shower this instant. Then go to bed. Don't you dare screw up your day for some cookies that will just make you miserable later.
If you really want one don't deprive yourself, then go for a short walk!!!
Drink your hot chocolate--your craving will be gone!
If you really and truly HAVE to have a cookie, have ONE cookie - and then do ten minutes of exercises to help burn off the extra calories. Or else fit in fifteen minutes of extra exercise tomorrow if it's too late tonight...
The shower is a great idea! maybe go to amovie or something! I swear that roomate of yours is awful! If you really want the cookie have it in themorning, carbs at night are the worst!
just wanted to thank you all.....I didn't really WANT the cookie, (but I wanted it...you know what I mean?)  so I took a shower and closed myself up in my room.  No cookie!  Yay!

Oh give me a break.  Just because one roommate is trying to lose weight and doesn't need the cookies doesn't mean that the other roommate should deprive themselves.  And unless the roommate with the cookies is teasing her about eating them or trying to pressure her into it, then there is nothing awful about it.

Just remember why you are working to lose the weight, talk a walk or something, and then go to bed.  Geez.  Expecting everyone around you to change their eating habits just because you do is just unreasonable.  Like the other day when my wife and daughter came home with Sirloin burgers from Jack in the Box.  Even though I am sure I would have enjoyed one, I just made some tea, sat down with a book and read until they were finished.  They didn't offer me any or tease me about how good it was or anything.  Did I blame them for tempting me?  No.  I just did what I had to do to resist the desire to indulge myself when I didn't need to.

techdog, perhaps I should clarify:  as far as I'm concerned, my roommate is welcome to roll around in vats of ice cream and leave cookies on every flat surface in the house.  It's her home and she can do whatever she wants, as can everyone else who happens to have food around me.  I neither "blame them for tempting me" nor expect them "to change their eating habits just because" I do.

A request for a little pep-talk does not automatically equal whining, blame-shifting or unreasonable attitudes.

As for chairmanmeow's comment, I believe that you misconstrued her meaning and judged quite harshly.  Earlier I journaled about several friends who were using their food to actively tempt me and mock my dieting efforts; chances are, on the heels of that journal post, she  felt sympathy for one more potential stumbling block and responded with that sympathy in mind.

Ooohh...chocolate chip cookies are my downfall. Drink a big glass of water or brush your teeth to help avoid eating the cookie. If you simply must have it, you can always deduct the calories from your calorie allowance tomorrow. Or, you can send the cookie to me!
Jeslnn,  lol--I'd gladly send the cookies to you, but since they're the roomie's I'll probably just leave them.  Smile
So yeah my nana made cookies and they are sitting on the kitchen table which I walk past very often. So What!!!!!!!! You gotta learn self control. Just because it is there does not mean that you have to eat it or that you necessarily want to eat it. Its a damn cookie.
techdog I think you are taking me way to serious, lynied has posted about the roomate saying she is cheating before. roomates can be stumbling blocks. I know it's hard to tell how some one means something on line, or the intent behind the words. But I'm really not placing an actual value judgement on her roomate as a human. I am using her roomate as a representation of temptation.

I give.  But perhaps you all were taking me too seriously as well.

If you noticed, I did describe a couple of things I do to avoid temptation, finding something to distract myself, like taking a walk, reading a book, or having a cup of tea.  Perhaps I also am a victim of misinterpretation.

I'm glad that you were able to resist the temptation.  And for those people who do intentionally try to sabotage your healthy eating goals, may they be sentenced to the hell of cottage cheese butts and triple chins. Laughing

Hehe  Just remember, a craving is just a craving and nothing more. Its just your brain trying to keep you addicted to bad stuff. After you eat the cookes you probably won't feel nearly as satisfied as if you had eaten something healthy, especially if you're recording your calories on here like I am. lol (sigh)

I've found when I don't eat sweets for over a week I no longer have any desire for them.  Now when I get cravings I try to have some healthy things on hand like fruit, nuts, yogurt, etc.  Making yogurt fruit salads was a really good replacement for ice cream for me.

When pms comes along or any massive cravings I can't control, I take some mega green tea and *poof* they are gone. So hang in there, go get some really amazing fruit, etc and give that a try when you're about to lose it. ;]  Also dark chocolate is low in fat and is okay if eaten in small quantities.
