So I've been working on loosing weight since May and during the summer I had much success.  Now that I am back at school I find myself frustrated.  I live with three other girls who really don't understand the battle that I am going through to lose the weight and get healthy.  It seems like every weekend when they come back from their weekend at home they bring back more and more food that I know I should not have and make it a free for all of us.  Since I'm in college it puts a bind on my budget so I can go get some snacks to tie me over but if I eat one of my heathly snacks every time they eat one of theirs I'll be out of mine by the end of the week and I don't have the money to go buy healthy snacks every week.  What are some good ways that I can over come this and not drive a wedge between our friendship.  Even though they don't understand the hardship they have been their for me throughout the whole process.

Hi there.  Sorry to say that I'm not in college anymore (I wish!) and I was also more in the position of your roommates.  But in that position, I can tell you that all you need to do is have a heart to heart with them.  Tell them your goals and it doesn't help to have that stuff around.  If they really care, they will save it for another time like when you're in class.

Second, for any age... when they bring out the junk, go brush your teeth and pop a piece of gum in your mouth.  Gum is cheap and hopefully you won't want to get all that grease, sugar or whatever else on your perfectly clean teeth.  Gum will keep your mouth busy.  Sounds cheesy but it works.

If all else fails... when they offer up the buffet - go for a walk!  Willpower is amazing and you will feel amazing about yourself having it.  Good luck!

I'm not in college yet, but all my friends are teenage boys - they regularly order massive amounts of pizza, Chinese, or Mexican for everyone. I don't see it as annoying so much as them just not understanding - they can eat all of that and lose weight, so they figure that it won't really hurt me.

I definitely second the gum suggestion - I do this all the time, because it keeps your mouth busy. Also drink extra water, because it'll help you feel full and remind you that you really don't need the junk food.

In my situation, I know they're not trying to tempt me - they honestly think that I shouldn't worry and ought to just enjoy it because it isn't a big deal. Chances are that these girls aren't intentionally trying to sabotage you, they just don't understand how serious you are.

I am with you girl! I am in the same situation prectically. I lose some weight over the summer and I was doing really well, and then all of a sudden I got to college (I'm a freshman by the way) and BAM, 6lb in 1 month! I couldn't belive it. And you know how campus food is all cafeteria style? Well all the people i eat with eat EVERYTHING, pizza and chicken, pasta and potatoes, all at once! And so if I go get my salad i just feel unsatisfied. And also it seems like everytime we go out we end up in buger king at 2 in the morning cuz its cheap and the only place open, so I end up eating even if I'm not hungry. I'm so glad tomorrow's Monday because I really want a fresh start, I'm trying to lose 15lb by Thanksgiving, but its soooo much harder than it looks. I don't even know what happened, it was like the weight was just falling off during the summer, and now its back, and wont budge! Well, lets help each other out! Stay motivated right?

Hi

First off, congrats on your success.  50 pounds is a helluvalot!

This may seem harsh, but it's your weight loss journey, your suffer. It seems to me that you want them to take more responsibility for you. I think thats a little bit out of line, and pretty "unhealthy". If you are serious about living healthy you have to be able to do so regardless of the people around you.  I'm not saying it's easy, believe me, I've been there, but you have to accept the responsibility for your own health and not expect others to change their ways just because you want to change yours.

Good luck
