Rowing vs. Running
Anybody know how they compare to each other in terms of cardio, fat burning, and muscle building? I always thought rowing (either on the water or on an erg) was more like weight training, especially on the legs, but someone informed me today that it actually qualifies as cardio?!?!
rowing is good cardio, provided that you're working hard enough at it.
for women, though, weight-bearing exercise is important for preventing bone loss, so make sure you're doing other kinds of exercise as well.

Weight training is cardio.
My college doesn't have a gym so I've been doing squats, pushups, planks, etc for weight training. Is that enough?
I thought cardio was anything that involved getting your heart rate pumping...so more along the lines of running.

Weight lifting gets your heart rate pumping too.

Enough for what?
Rowing is considered aerobic activity although you can actually burn more running. Rowing has almost the same effect as biking (mobile or stationary), as to bike strengthens your legs, rowing strengthens your arms but you won't grow big muscles in rowing compare to weight lifting exercises for your arms. Weight training involves lifting some weights such as dumbells, etc..
Although weight training gets your heart rate pumping also, it has different effect than rowing, biking, running, or other aerobic activities. In aerobics, you are burning calories as you're doing it and it pretty much slows down then stops the burning. Weight training makes you burn calories and fat while exercising and continues to burn even at rest. Weight training also makes you stronger.
In conclusion, it is best to mix these exercises to get the maximum results of losing body fat, possible weight gain a bit in the end but consist of muscles not fat, which results into a leaner toned body.
Keep it up!!
