RUDE PEOPLE asking "Do you eat?"
So I had to call in to work to tell them i wouldn't be in tomorrow. I have to go for a medical procedure that i'm scared of btw, i have to have a biopsy.
anyways I told them i wouldn't be in and my boss says "Do you eat?" and i said "excuse me?" and he's like "yeah no seriously do you? *so and so* said they wished they were as skinny as you"
I was completely stunned, honestly i wanted to cry.
so i said "ALthough I don't have to explain myself or tell you my medical history, I have a rare metabolic disorder that is difficult to manage and effects my weight."
stupid ****. sorry for the curse word i just can't belive it I am so upset and stressed out as it is and I get a comment like that.
I know it's hard when you're stressed out and scared, but just remember that his words can only have power over you if you GIVE them power. Would you intentionally try to completely run someone down over their weight? Most people wouldn't, so just take it as him being rude and that ISN'T YOUR PROBLEM, hun. It really isn't. You need to concentrate on getting through your biopsy. *big hug*
Speaking as one of those people who lack tact for the most part.... you boss may have been trying to pay a compliment. May not seem like it when you're self-conscious, but there is the other message to that sentence ..."soandso wished they looked like you."
Moral of the story, People will always judge you! too skinny too fat too short too tall too lanky too tubby too boring too loud. No matter who you are people talk **** just ignore them and continute being you. The way I see it? You get to be skinny and there just jealous of you.
:)
Being picky is a skill those of us on the heavy end of the scale are trying desperately to adopt. I think subconciously you end up with people who want company in their overweight misery, so they criticize those who don't have the same issues as "starving." Whenever I drop some level of weight, I end up with coworkers who magically appear with large plates of desserts in my face trying to make me eat. Anytime I've ever commented that I was working on a healthier lifestyle, those very same people continually seem to try sabotage those efforts. At first, it was difficult to turn them away, but the more I do it, the less they try.
Write it off as jealousy, do what you have to do to make you healthy and don't worry about the comments of the petty. Hidden in those cutting remarks is just a wish for themselves to make better decisions.
I really think he meant it like a compliment, but I feel ya.
When I told my brother I was hungry, he's like "let me get you a soda cracker and some water, that should fill you up". I kind of took it as RUDE RUDE people, but that's not what he meant.
I'm sorry you have to go through that with your boss tho. But I really don't think he meant to offend you.
Hang in there and have a good weekend. Chin up! Chin up!
thanks everyone,
yeah today i went in but my boss wasn't there. i was really stressed out because i had to have a biopsy yesterday so I was hoping he wasn't there to say anything rude to me, i wouldn't have been able to handle it, I NEVER get emotional in public, but the way things have been going lately i feared I might've.
thank you all for your support I'm glad there's someplace i can vent (even if it's just typing it out) to those that understand.

You know, my math teacher said something similar to me the other day.
Someone told me I looked "tiny", and my teacher said "Oh, she just stopped eating."
It really hurt me.
SO uncalled for, people are so rude, they should just mind their own business. They don't know us, they don't know our circumstances.
Calling attention to it is just... awkward.
I would take a guess that all these people who yall say are so rude, are either being complementary or speak with concern....some people just lack social skills to get the point across without coming across like an ass...There are of course exceptions, thats different, Im talking about somebody giving you a compliment and meaning it....not a backhanded one from a MIL or something :D
At my point in weight loss, Id be happy if a coworker said something like that to me....I would probably respond laughing "da.mn right". They of course all know different since we all travel on a regular basis and see what I bring/eat. Now people trying to force candy and stuff on me....hahaha thats different and I just say no every time...boy those Cheeto's are hard to deny but I do it....now THAT is empowering...
To the waitress who gives a very snarky nasty response to customers.....you should probably think before you speak, especially if the comment is made in a lighthearted manner... your customers don't know your back round and are giving you a compliment....why would you jeopardize your tips and possible your job by pissing off customers with a response like that? These aren't people off the street that stop you in the middle of the road and yell at you to eat something....
I personally would never say something like that to anybody (of course I'm of a younger generation and I would think these are older folks you are talking about? I keep imaging a "santa clause" grandpa type saying those things) but if I got a response like that...you not only would not get a tip, youd probably get a compliant.
The point is...lighten up people! Flame away! Im looking forward to the "do you eat" comments....sounds better than the "your such a fat pig" comments. (bolded for effect...hahaha)
