Ruht Roh I've been invited over for mexican food tonight

hmm I have 500 cals to spend. I don't know what they are having. I do want to be there and be supportive however cheese alone on that stuff is loaded with calories. I don't want to insult by bringing my own food although I don't think they would mind.

I really believe in the idea of eating right now like you would as a thin person because when you get there you shouldn't all of a sudden tell yourself oh I can eat this and that now and have your eating so drastically different from before and suddenly gain it all back. All things in moderation.

Thinking portion control with lets say one taco would be about 400 cals almost my entire dinner. Grrrrrr this sucks. I don't think one taco is going to fill me up.

Any advice that's postitive?

If you want the taco, eat the taco.
If they have lettuce out, fill up your plate with TONS of it.
You'd have to eat almost an entire head of lettuce for those last 100 calories, so I think you'd be fine =P

If you are eating at a friends house that seems like alot of calories for a taco.....tacobell is only 200 for a taco. If you can make your own taco there then limit how much cheese you put in it and don't add sour cream or guacamole. Add lots of veggies and a little meat and you are good to go!

Thanks Skye and alyssandra........

I think the lettuce thing with lots of veggies is a good idea. I might even take over a piece of fruit too or eat the fruit later.

Im in the same perdiciment here at home.. Im having tacos.. 2 corn smaller tortillas, 3-4 oz of steak, 1 oz meixcan cheese, 2 tbsp light sour cream, lettuce, and salsa, with a salad as a side.. whole thing will be 500-600 cals.. not to bad

You can "transform" anything into a healthier version.. its just harder when your not at home with your own food. But I still eat tacos, with ground turkey, salsa, veggies, and small tortillas. :)

Good Luck btw, you will do fine!!

Make a taco salad!  Lots of lettuce, salsa, little meat, more beans, tomato, onion & you're done!  Sometimes I crush up some corn chips (more flavor, less cal than eating them straight out of the bag).  Should fill you up easily.

Thanks lisa, stardust and jacksnacks.........

I think i'm going to be fine. I found out they are eating late and it's already 8:30 here and I don't want to eat that late. I will just go over and spend time with them instead.

Now I can find something to eat here that's healthier :)...whew

In the future though taco salad or 2 tacos with very little cheese.......making mental notes.

Thanks!

Well once you get there, you'll see your choices and make them. We don't even know if they'll be having tacos.

If I were you, I'd work out for an hour prior to dinner and burn off a few extra hundred calories, so that way you have more 'wiggle room' when you get there, and you can enjoy yourself! Ya?

I agree with stardust03 in that you can make any situation "healthier" but adding in good stuff and limiting fattier/higher calorie stuff. I was dreading going to Brownie Camp with my daughter this weekend, but after reviewing the menu realized that even though there will be lots of "junk" - smores, ice cream! - there also lots of fruit choices and I plan on loading up on whatever veggie they have going! Wish me luck,...

Assuming that this person your friend. Can't you just talk to them before you go and explain that you want to bring a big salad with you? I would tell them that you don't want them to go to any trouble.  You wouldn't feel funny about this if it were a severe food alergy so why feel funny because you need to watch the calories? I like your point about eating as a thin person but you are trying to lose weight now so it is different from maintaining.  Good luck and enjoy the company.

I also like the idea about working out some extra so you wont be upset if you do eat something that you really shouldn't have. Great idea.
