Please add 5.0 miles for Wed 9/24 and 5.0 miles for today. Love those intervals.
10.85 miles yesterday.
wrm, I don't know if it is really true, but my Master's coach is always telling us that the benefits of training take two weeks to show up, so it's really too late to do anything about it now :-) I think the feeling that my top performance has already been locked in helps me just follow the plan and stop worrying about it.
skinny_kitty: I wasn't really able to start implementing those recommendations until I started doing intervals. For me, doing a 7:00 pace magnifies subtle form differences so that their effects are obvious. I can feel it starting to feed back into my 5K pace (more like 8:20)--I'm definitely getting faster, finally, but also I'm not quite so as anaerobic as I was before.
Hi, 5 miles this morning. Will probably post a few more miles later this evening.
Congrats on your HM PR, skinny_kitty! As far as my race course on Sunday, no hills at all (biggest elevation change is around 25 feet). It's known for being a flat and fast course.
Thanks to everyone for your words of encouragement. Your coach is absolutely right, jfk--there's no more additional benefit that I can derive through my workouts at this point. I've done all of the work I have needed to for a succesful race. If anything, it's the stupid things that I try to attempt at this point that could cost me.
5.25 miles of intervals today.
Dang, it was good today. Must have been the oatmeal breakfast--been skipping it a lot lately. I do 7.2 mph warmups, then 7.7, 8.2, 8.7, and 9.2 mph intervals. I had a really bad 8.7--almost didn't make it, so I was dreading the 9.2. I tightened up my core, and kept my shoulders relaxed, though, and made it through *easily*. Man, what a great feeling to run that speed without gasping and dreading falling off the back of the treadmill! Gotta get that "Rocky" song on my iPod.
Hi, another 4 miles this afternoon. Just following the training plan, nothing else (in case anyone is wondering whether I'm putting in too many miles this week)...
Morning all! Raining here for the first time in 5 weeks! We really need it.
27.40 miles for the week ending 7 October. Thanks!
5 miles today (I think)
I went to my first triathlon training session in university and we ran around the track. I tried to keep count and I'm pretty sure I did 20 laps altogether of various intervals with a warm up and down included.
wow, I feel like I have been away forever and its only been like a week. Things have been so crazy here, with a long weekend away (planned before we knew we were moving), and having to move on Friday, plus we are having a get together on Saturday with the people we went on the dive holiday with and I am supposed to have the trip video finished for it.... needless to say, my mileage has suffered a bit...
a measly 15 miles this week (ending Oct 7.) is all I managed to get in, and I am not sure the upcoming week will end up much better. In a way I guess its a good break from all the hard mileage I was putting in before the half, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.
One bonus is that it is getting much warmer here and I am LOVING it! Been able to run in tanks and shorts lately instead of all the crazy layers I used while suffering through the winter. Hopefully after the move this weekend I can get back to concentrating on running. A good part of it is that it will be all new runs and I get to explore a new area.
Oh and Good luck on the marathon wrm!
Hi all, I would like to add 6.1 miles for me yesterday.
I will be running my first marathon on Sunday, so I appreciate the comments on taper. I can't wait for the start gun to go off. This waiting around is not fun. ![]()
Hey everyone, 6.8 miles yesterday, including an attempt at 2 miles at goal marathon pace (7:28) as part of my "Dress Rehearsal" workout. Definitely went out too fast for those two miles (7:11 pace) --gotta remember to keep things in check so as not to blow up at the end.
Glad to see munrori in this thread--I expect he will have an excellent marathon debut on Sunday!
Another 5.25 miles of intevals today. Even better than Tuesday.
I can't wait to try my newfound speed out on a 5K--got one coming on 10/25. I spent 14 minutes at 0.1 mph under my former 5K pace just warming up today. I think what used to be a PR pace seems more like a tempo run now.
add 5.6 miles for me please Completed my last offical training run before race day on Sunday. That makes 1001 km run since June 15th .
Thanks wrm, when is your start time? I will be off at 9:00am EST. So far the weather is predicted to be ideal. between 10-15c / 50-58f. I will be routing for you. Hope you make your qualification time.
After the race I am going to my sister-in-law's for Thanks Giving dinner. After burning 3000+ calories I don't think I will have a problem if I eat a little extra. haha. My biggest worry is that I have to sit in a car for 1 1/2 hours. Hopefully I will be able to get out of the car on my own once I get there. The best part is she has a hot tub! I packed my bathing suit in my race bag so I don't forget it.

Our start time is 8:00 am Central Time, so it looks like we'll be starting at about the same time (the elite field will start about five minutes earlier). BTW, which race is it--Ottawa?? Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll do very well. You've trained well for this--just don't go out too quickly in the first few miles.
And you're right, the weather sounds great!! I'd love to temps like that on Sunday, but it looks like it will be a little on the warm side--forecasters are predicting low 60s at the start (16-17c) and low 70s by the time I'm done (21-23c). Not ideal temps for the best performances, so we'll see how close I come to reaching my 3:15:59 goal.
