when I run...?
I get this tight knot like feeling on the right side of my tummy... which means i have to stop... :( but i dont want it... it happens like when i hit 7 mins on 4.5 with no incline.. so its not even like im going like ten million mi/h :/ what do you think it is... or better yet how should i go about that.. because my goal is to be able to run... I want to be able to run for atleast 45 mins and not feel like im going to fall over... but just walk off the tredmill like oh yeah.. i did it lol
it really just sounds like your abs contracting, just muscles cramping or flexing. it may also be your first wall that you hit. i would just try to get through the pain if that doesn't work, i would take a breather and then try again to see if you can build up and get past it. if you feel like there might be something wrong you may want to see your physician. i wouldn't worry too much though just sounds like something you can work with and get past.
I get the same feeling sometimes. For me, unless it gets terribly painful, just taking in deeper breaths and breathing through the knot makes it go away soon after.
definitely deep belly breathing helps. really focus on expanding your rib cage. just try not get a little too high on the extra oxygen as it'll make you dizzy
. it takes some practice though before you find it working for you. if you can get your breathing in the rhythm of your pace that helps too.
Totally and completely exhale with each breath. That should get rid of it, but if you make a point of doing this from the start, you won't get the side stitch.
Good luck!
I had this problem when I started running too - it seemed around the 18 minute mark I'd get a hard side stich that would force me to walk. A couple of things get rid of it - one; slow down (walk if needed), two; deep belly breathing (inhale deeply through the nose trying to make your tummy stick out, and then breathe out through pursed lips, like you were breathing out through a straw), three; raise your arms above your head (this helps you breathe deeper).
The way I found best to run through this was to avoid it by taking a walk break before I got the stich. So if it happens at the 7 minute mark, try running for 5 minutes and then walking for one or two, then run for another 5, walk another one or two. It's caused by you working so hard that your breath becomes shallow, therefore concentrate on your breathing all of the time.
Everyones recommendations are great. It is quite likely your diaphragm muscle spasming. The major respiratory muscle. Should ease up / go away with time as it gets stronger and more endurance (used to all the exercise and breathing that goes along with it) Totally normal. Nothing to worry about.. hope that helps..
Ugh, this happens to me occasionally with just about any cardio I do. It's like a terrible cramp in my side. It's so frustrating because it makes me have to lower the intensity of my workout.
it's a cramp. The good news is that runners get them...which means you are a runner!
To get rid of cramps when you are running, clasp your hands and put them behind your head to stretch out your diaphragm and stomach muscles. Also, try eating a banana about an hour before you run. Also, cramping in general comes from dehydration. So if you drink a lot of water, that may help.
