I can run!

Quote  |  Reply

About a month ago I started running. I stuggled my way though 2 km (I'm Canadian it's km here) Now, 2nd time this week, I ran 7.5 km. Yay me! I'm so happy. I'm sure that I could have kept going today but I had to go get my kids.

Sorry, I had to share. I'm so proud of myself.

Good Job!!!Laughing

I am proud of you.  Bad at math ---> 7.5 km = 3ish miles?

I think that is bada$$, girl!  I started last summer at 230 and walking 5 miles a day -- now I am 180 and running 3 to 5 miles a day.  I can tell such a difference in my body from running!

Here's to keeping up the good work!!!!   : D

We should make this a positive runner;s thread......

Thanks

I did the conversion - It's 4.66 miles. I can only get out to run 3 times a week. Thats all my babysitter can do. I would love to get out every day. When I get my time faster I'll up It to 10km(6.2 miles).

I can't see a difference in my body yet but I definitely feel it!

Can you save up and get yourself a running stroller for the baby (I'm just guessing?  or is it multiple kidlings?)????   I think it is awesome what you did  - --  and you totally inspired me to get into a 5K for sure soon, maybe a 10 k soon enough!

woo hoo!

----------------

EDITED to change my point --  wow, 3!  do they all have your gorgeous hair?   ( :    would the kids join you on a walk? or bike ride? or ..... play frisbee football?  or something fun, all 4 of you?  I would have loved for my mom to get out there with me!!!!

we walk but very slowlyTongue out. the little one rides on my shoulders most of the time.

I'm kind worried about summer. It gets really hot here. It's awkward carrying a water bottle but necessary here. Any ideas how to run in the heat?

could the little one ride on a scooter or in  a wagon?

I would for sure say EARLY morning or after bed time.......

I had to get my summer exercise in before 9AM or usually after 7 or 8.  where are you?  Kansas here...
Good  for you!

Gets hot where I am too (GTA), but I found last summer that the running made my sweat blow-dry so it didn't feel as bad as I thought it would.....I didn't run on the super humid days, though -- at my age its better to be safe than sorry -- I'm running for improved health not for passing out from heat exhaustion.   Yeah, necessary to get water....I have tried two different water bottle holders (both from Goodwill, I cheaped out), but I'm at the "level" now where I feel the need to purchase something that is actually going to WORK and not bob up and down and irritate me, loosen, or carry the water where my elbows bang it....so I'm looking to get one of these -- its my "reward" for after my 10k race in May......hmmmm, at 7k alread YOU should train for a 10k race!!!

I know what you mean walking with kids -- its sooooooooooooo SLOW!  Impossible to call it "exercise", eh?  I "walk" the kids to school 3x a day -- but its more like sleeping than walking.

Keep up the good work!

I'm in British Columbia. Okanagan valley. 25 minute drive from the Canada/US border. The only problem with running that early/late is finding a sitter willing to do it. Its almost impossible to find a good sitter here.

on_my_way- thanks for the link. I like the pink one.

Good Job!  4.6 miles is fantastic!!  May I ask how you built up your endurance?  intervals?

I used to run a few years ago and am trying to get back into it.  I've decided to work towards running in the 10K classic on July 20th, 2008, here in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Canada).  I can only run for approximately 5 mins at a time (with walking inbetween), but I figure it's a good goal to work towards.  Actually, does anyone want to train with me?  Work towards running 10K by July??  hmmmm, might even post this as a forum!

tblo -- post it in a forum!  ( :   Not sure I am ready to do that, but might try.

immom ---  hhhmmmmm, do you have any mom type friends you could trade off mornings with?  gramdparents or grandparent type stand ins?  it was never my real gparents who helped my mom, but more older people who loved us who knew relaxed and happy moms are better for half an hour to exercise.   : D   problem solve....... any other moms out there?

thanks!

Yeah Intervals. nothing set though. I ran as far I as i could go then pushed myself to the next telephone pole, walked till I recovered. Thought I would die by the end of 2km. Once i could run alittle more than half way I increased the distance.

I thought about signing up for a 10k but I'm kinda chicken. I run by myself, not sure bout runnin with all those people.

I do have alot of family here that are willing to watch the kids. The problem is finding time in everyones schedules.

Here's my proposition..... this family who are willign babysitters are close-ish>? worth the drive?

Are there 3 of you?

Set up a schedule for after work that works for all of you.  meet at one person's house a day and 2 people walk/run, while one person baby sits.  if you are feeling energetic, maybe switch off and go more than once.  Next day, the babysitter from day before gets to walk/run the whole time.  Everyone needs a little time off ---- if there are 4 of you even better.  2 people get to hang out and talk and babysit and 2 people get to walk/run.  Trade off.  MY mom used to, I now remember, do this kind of walking club with her apartment complex lady buddies when we were kids.

I'll keep my high school student who comes 2X a week. He likes the money. And I my mom dad or sister will watch them for a couple runs. The only problem with that is I feel guilty asking them to watch the kids cause they all work full time and my sis has 3 of her own. But I'll do it anyway. I don't know anyone who runs. Except my uncle. Our family thinks we're both nuts.lol. I have one friend who walks. She just joined weight watches and is not confident enough to do more than that. The rest of my friends think its funny that I count calories and none of them are very active.

5k=about 3 miles, so 7.5k about 4.5 mile... good job immom :)
too bad, immom --  I hope you find some help so you can get out there and keep at it    ( :

sorry for all my ineffecutual ideas!

thanks for the ideas anywayLaughing

And I will keep at it

Congrats!

I envy people who can run.  I have such a hard time with it.  I quit trying for awhile but I'm starting back up again.  After about 3 minutes my throat gets too dry, and then my ribs and arms start to hurt.  I'm a big baby so I stop.  I can do a fast pace walk no problem, but jogging is taking some work.  Any advice?

BTW, I'm about 190 lbs, 5'5", size 12, so I have alot of weight to carry along with me.

Great Job!!! I am so jealous. I have never been able to run (even when I was thin it was torture) I mean, I used to do it, but I never ENJOYED it. I have a girlfriend who LOVES it and I am sooooo envious!

Keep up the good work Wink

hovermoyer, try getting on a treadmill and do different intervals. Start at 3, for 1 min, then 4 for a min then 5 for 30 sec; then drop to 3 for 3 mins, and go up again for as long as you can go. Do this until you can do 5 for an entire min, then start at 4 and go up to 6, and keep increasing. Before long, you'll be running with no problems.

If you don't have a treadmill, do sprints around the block, start walking fast, then jog, then run as fast as you can, then start the process over just like on the treadmill. Try to keep moving for at least 20 mins to start and work yourself into doing 30 - 45 mins after you're more comfortable running.

For the dry mouth, be sure to drink plenty of water before you plan to run, if you are drinking plenty, then try chewing a piece of gum while you run, this will keep your mouth wet (Extra gum only has 5 cal a stick).

God's speed in your endeavor, and my prayers are with you.

Olivia 7.5k = 4.6mile
