Run twice a day....
If I run 1.5mi in the a.m. and 1.5mi in the p.m.......am I burning the same about of calories if I were to just run 3 miles all at once?
I can't run a full 3 miles yet without stopping so thought I'd do 1.5 in a.m. and 1.5 in p.m.
Thanks!
Yes, it is the same number of calories.
To addon to the first question, how would that affect your metabolism?
i would guess so, but am not sure. i sometimes exercise at different points in the day, too, but just to rev my metabolism. i always log my calories, whether night or morning, as what they calculate as per CC.

It wouldn't.
If you workout within 12 hours it's almost like doing it all at once ... you're fittness will improve very quickly as well.
Good work!
double post!
Thanks you for all the feedback!!!! I'll see what happens! Come on legs, we have some ground to cover!!!!
While I'm not sure about the answers with regard to calories, I just wanted to point you to a great running guide online.....search for Hal Higdon running schedules.
He's a famous running guy with plenty of good (and free) schedules to get your body "up to speed". Check out his Beginner schedules for a 5k (3.2 Miles)....it is a weekly rotation ramping you up to mileage!
I've been running for years now, but I still use his schedules to ramp up for a bigger run...one day I might actually get a marathon (26.2 miles) under my belt...but not yet!
Good luck with your running!
You'll burn the same amount of calories but running twice a day won't affect your metabolism. Your metabolism is affected by building muscle and strength training... so unless you're running 1.5 miles of steep hills each time you run to build leg muscle, it shouldn't affect your metabolism at all. Running 1.5 miles twice a day should be better than running 3 miles once a day, long continuous runs supposedly eat away at your muscle mass, and short bouts of cardio are supposed to help preserve muscle mass while getting your cardio in.
You certainly would be... and you know what, you may even be burning a bit more because you might have more energy to tackle 1.5 miles (running at a faster pace) at a time then one long 3 mile stint!
