Runners--> Calf problems! Help!

Quote  |  Reply

So I started running religiously in feburary running 2 miles a day...to mix it up I started training for a 5k and m distances varied throughout the week from 2-6 miles...I also do some interval work...after the race I have continued to run 3-5 miles 6-7 days a week....

when I was running at school I never had issues with my calves, but a week after I came home I began experiencing pain in my calves every time I ran and regardless whether it was the treadmill or outside..I have been doing some light strength exercises, staying well hydrated, and eating bananas and the pain still won't go away! I take a day or two off but the pain still occurs, usually just later in the run. It's not cramps, but just tight pain and around mile 4 my feet start to tingle and lose feeling (and yes I make sure my laces aren't too tight).... any suggestions? help? someone said compartment's syndrome possibly but I wanted to see what you guys think! I hateeeee not being able to runFrownit's my release and "me" time

You may try looking at this page on Runner's World and see if any of it matches what you're experiencing.  Other than that, you might just want to see your doctor--injuries aren't fun, but they get worse when they aren't treated.  Good luck!

Hey are you still running in the same shoes by chance? As people who love to run we end up forgeting how many miles we have put on our shoes. The miles go by so fast and it seems like we just bought our shoes. If you think you may have 300 miles or so on your shoes it would be a good idea to buy a new pair. Go to runners world.com and look through some of the shoes they have tested, I found the perfect shoes for me that way. I hope this helps you out, I can't imagine not running.

The shoes I'm running in I just purchased right before this started because my other ones were causing my knees to bruise..the first week or two my legs felt great then and the pain slowly developed as I began to log more miles..Undecided

I ran today and walked too. But its my shin splints (sp?) that are hurting.  I know surface that you run on has something to do with it.

How is your calcium intake?  I know that not enough calcium can cause calf pain, also are you stretching-there are good stretches for your calfs, but be careful not to overstretch.  Are you sure you are getting enough water....with hot weather our fluid intake should be way higher.   Hope that helps....
