Runners Roll Call
There are 255 of us who have 'running' listed as one of our interests in our profile. Wow! So, for those of us who are currently posting in the forums, I thought it would be fun to do a little poll. I love getting inspiration from more seasoned runners, since I'm a newb still. And, I've loved the few times I've helped inspire someone to think about running, too.
Play along if you'd like! :)

Ok, my answers. :)
1. When did you start running?
5/31/06, I ran for 10 minutes that day.
2. How much do you run per week currently?
I'm up to 20 mpw now, working up to my goal of 25-30
3. How many days per week do you run?
I'm now doing 5 days per week, although it was just recently that I upped it from 4 days.
4. Are you training for anything in particular?
I have my 2nd 5k Nov 4th, then I'm aiming for the StL 1/2 marathon in April
5. Care to share any race times or other accomplishments?
My first 5k was 9/16, I finished in 33:51, which I was thrilled with!! My longest run to date was 8.75 miles.
6. Treadmill vs. Outside - discuss.
I do both. Treadmill when it's too humid or too cold, otherwise outside. I have asthma, and the weather causes me breathing problems. I just pop in a dvd or watch something good on TV and can go for at least 60 minutes without getting bored. But I'll admit that I prefer outside!!
7. Gear vs. No Gear - discuss.
I don't know what I would do without my HRM. Someday I'd like to get a gps deal so I can run on trails and still know my mileage. Guess I'm a wannabe gear-head.
8. What time of day do you usually run?
Most often in the evenings on weekdays, mornings on weekends. I've tried the pre-dawn thing and it doesn?t work so well for me, although a part of me wants it to...
9. What running websites do you use?
www.runningmap.com to track my mileage, and www.coolrunning.com for tips and comraderie. Same user ID over there as here. www.active.com and www.stlouistrackclub.com to find local races and events.
10. What is your favorite thing about running?
Feeling strong. I love knowing that I can go for an 8 mile run now, and that soon I'll be able to go further. Knowing that it's such a good thing for me, and that it's something that not everyone can do. Granted, there are plenty who can do it faster than me, but that's ok!
11. Anything else you'd like to share?
Thanks to all the other runners out there, it really is a great 'community' and I've gotten a lot from other people. :) Thanks to anyone who fills out my little survey!

Yeah for all the cool posts, too, I love reading this stuff!!
Yeah for all the cool posts, too, I love reading this stuff!!
. When did you start running? January 2004. After a lifetime of avoiding running at any cost, I joined a 13-week training clinic for the 10K Vancouver Sun Run.
2. How much do you run per week currently? I don't really keep track of mileage (usually just minutes).
3. How many days per week do you run? I've slacked off a bit over the last few months and only run a couple of times a week, usually either on the treadmill or short interval/hill runs close to my house. But I just joined a trail running clinic, and so I'll be running at least 3 times a week.
4. Are you training for anything in particular? The Phantom Run, a 10K trail run through the mountains of North Vancouver on November 18.
5. Care to share any race times or other accomplishments? Last April was the third time I ran the 10K Sun Run. I took 14 (!) minutes off my time from the previous year, and came in under an hour (58:20). I almost cried.
6. Treadmill vs. Outside - discuss. I've been finding both the treadmill and the road a bit tedious of late. I like the treadmill because it's at my gym, and I can hit the weights after. The road is a bit more varied, and I don't overheat as much. However, now I've discovered trail running, and it feels like true love. I had no idea running could be that much fun. The treadmill and the road now just seem like training tools for the trail.
7. Gear vs. No Gear - discuss. I have a heart rate monitor which I use for most of my cardio, and an MP3 player. I've found the waterbottle by Tupperware (no kidding) to be superiour to any others I've tried. I always wear technical clothes because I get really sweaty. I've never been hard core enough to require the fancy technology.
8. What time of day do you usually run? Usually early in the morning, although sometimes when I'm too tense at the end of the day, I'll run some hilly streets late at night.
9. What running websites do you use? www.mountainmadness.ca www.runnersworld.com www.sportsmedbc.ca
10. What is your favorite thing about running? The people I meet in my running groups. The way I feel after a killer workout in the rain, followed by a hot shower. The way that downhill feels just after you've been going up. The great socks. The trail. The fact that most of the runners I know don't have "the runner's body", and still proudly wear the spandex tights.
11. Anything else you'd like to share? Hey Bep16: For shin splints, try toe raises to strengthen your shins (heels on step, toes hanging down, then raise them as far up as possible; kind of the opposite of a calf raise). You may even want to balance a weighted bar on it or use a band for resistance. And stretch the bejeezus out of 'em if you can.
Does anyone have a way of getting the stink out of techical clothes?

1. When did you start running? When I started to get serious about soccer--about 10 yrs ago--then stopped for awhile and started again about 4 yrs ago
2. How much do you run per week currently? Probably 12-13 miles
3. How many days per week do you run? Just four: I have horrible knees and ankles (and shin splints occasionally) from soccer, so I have to take it somewhat easy
4. Are you training for anything in particular? Nope, just want to be in good shape
5. Care to share any race times or other accomplishments? I was the fastest sprinter on my soccer team when I was younger...
6. Treadmill vs. Outside - discuss. I hate the treadmill--if the weather isn't good enough to run in, then I do a kickboxing video
7. Gear vs. No Gear - discuss. I'm too poor for gear... the most expensive gear I have is probably a tie between my sports bra and my shoes. I used to always run with my walkman, but it's big and clunky and the headphones slide around... I'm much faster without it.
8. What time of day do you usually run? Either 6am or 6pm
9. What running websites do you use? www.mapmyrun.com
10. What is your favorite thing about running? As was said, the feeling of accomplishment, the massive amounts of sweat, and feeling like a million bucks when I finish.
11. Anything else you'd like to share? I've been getting more into the interval training lately, and my times have been improving, as well as my stamina--yay!

I have tried a lot of supplements. I finally found a supplement that is proving itself worthy. Since I started taking EAS' VO2 Peak, I have been setting new PR's at all distances. This is after 3 years of little improvement. Actaully all my old PR's were from my first year of running.
gscott - where were you stationed when you were in the corp? My husband was in from 91 - 95.
I'll play! (even though I'm more of a JOGGER than a runner right now, lol)

2. How much do you run per week currently? Just a couple of blocks, back and forth. I am working my way up slowly. This past summer I got back into riding my bicycle. So for the winter I want to make a transition from riding to running, as it is easier to run in the snow.
3. How many days per week do you run? Hmm... still working on it. Any day that the road has been cleared of snow and ice. Sometimes daily, sometimes 3 to 4 days inbetween.
4. Are you training for anything in particular? To run around my block. It's about 5 miles around. =)
5. Care to share any race times or other accomplishments? When I was younger, I was able to run a mile under 6 minutes. I was pretty happy about that.
