Running buddy/ies?

Quote  |  Reply
Hello!!

I am just starting a running program this week.. if anyone is interested in starting it with me I am using coolrunning.com.  It is a completely free site and it makes it really easy to keep track of your running progress as well as offers a beginning running program.

**Oh, I am a beginning runner, just FYI.

This week (three times) you start with stretching followed by a five minute power walk.  Then you do 60 seconds of jogging followed by 90 seconds of power walking and keep on repeating until 20 minutes is up!

I would really like to do this with someone else!!!  I have selected Mons, Weds, and Fridays as my running days!!! =)

Oooo and the programs says it will turn the couch potato into the 5K runner in two months, so lets do it!!!

ohmyikc I would do that with you but I live in Canada and it happens to be minus 27 with a wind chill right now.

BUT!! I recently began working out again, something I quit doing last summer.  I really want to get fit and in shape again, so if you still want an "exercising buddy", as opposed to a "running" buddy, I'd be happy to work out on my stepper everyday (max heart rate), and keep tabs with you.  At least it would be a form of motivation and we could touch base about our progress with ea/ other!  What do you think?
That sounds fabulous petitie miss!!! =)

So then the goal for us would be cardio- how much per day are you planning on doing??
Well, since I just began using the stepper just 4 days ago, lol, I don't want to hit it too hard yet.  I have been doing ten minutes a day, but tonight I pushed myself to 15.  I want to work my way up to 20, and then 25.  I used to be a hardcore cardio freak, like I would jog around a couple blocks, or work out on one of those Tony Little Gazelle's for 30-40 minutes everyday.  So believe me I have the motivation to keep it up.

This site has already helped me out a lot so having someone to message and discuss acheivments with would be great!

If you want to use MSN as well let me know and I'll put my address on my profile (msn is such a good way to keep in touch)
Hi ohmyikc!  I just started a running program on Jan. 10th of this year.  I am following my own program, but would be happy to buddy up so we could cheer one another on.  My goal is to be able to run 30 minutes at 6 mph (10 minute mile).  Right now, I am running on the treadmill three days a week - Mon, Wed, and Friday. I run a mile for time, then walk to the eighteen minute mark, then run the last two minutes if I can.  On Jan. 10th, I ran a mile in 11:58.  Today, I ran my mile in 10:27, so I am 27 seconds away from a ten minute mile.  Once I get to my ten minute mile, then I'll work on increasing the time I run versus the time I walk in a twenty minute time period.  Once I am running for twenty minutes, I'll start increasing my time until I am up to 30 minutes of running.  I share my run times in my journal. If I reach my goal, then I should also be able to run a 5K without too much difficulty.  Happy running!!
Petitiemiss Sounds like a plan to me.. I wish i had a stepper! LoL

I don't have MSN, so could you email me at my email address that is on my profile?  That would be great! I have AIM though..

Then we can develop a plan to keep on eachother about! =) 15 is a good start, i'm doing 20 minutes of running/walking the first and second weeks!

Kscout It is a pleasure to meet you!

Wow, sounds like you are doing GREAT! I would love to sort of "align" my running goals with yours, they sound RIGHT ON!

I'm still on my initial week, and I am currently doing 20 mins on mon weds fri of jogging then walking!

Can you shoot me an email? Or do you have AIM? I'm kissm3cas3 there.  Just so you know, I log on at work, so I might not be by my comp if you IM.

By the way, i'm Casey! :)
Casey,

I'll have to shoot an email to you later today.  I don't have IM, I own a restaurant and can't spend a lot of time on the computer.  Did break my ten minute mile today - worked darn hard for it too!! Keep up the running!

~Kay
Kay,

Thanks! Can't wait!

Casey :)
Hello- I am on week 3 of couch to 5K program- so far I am loving it...Next week it will get a little more intense. I would love to chat and exchange ideas etc....I am in lower Alabama..no snow...live on the bay so I am in a runner's paradise. I was powerwalking for two months 5 miles every other day. No weight loss-no gain but still...3 weeks of run/walk 4 lbs. lost

This is cool...I am not the stavation type...so cardio is the answer.
Awesome Lucy.. I'm still doing week 1.. how bad were you when you started the program?? Any athletics at all?
Hello.  I'll be a buddy too.  I was starting the couch to 5k program then I came down with the flu.  I was only 1 week into it when I got sick so I'm starting again from the beginning.  I try to train mon/wed/fri.  I also walk everyday on my lunch hour just to get out of the office. I figure it can't hurt.
CLP that sounds great! yay, finally someone in the exact same place as me on the program!!! are you going to walk/jog tonight (on the week 1 program)?

Let me know! I check into CC.com all day at work! :)

Casey
Hi Ya'll.  I haven't run since the summer (I was up to 3 miles - my all time best since 1999) and HAVE TO get back into it!  Running is the ONLY way I lose any weight!  So, glad to join in and could use the motivation.  GEEEZ 5:45 is going to come early and it's so cold right now..28 this morning!  YIKES!  Ohmyikc thanks for getting us started! :)
Txgirlygirl- I think that half the battle is having support in your athletic endeavors, and I am glad that I have found a lot of supporters/friends in this room! =)

I would love to see each and every one of us running three miles straight after a two month period!!! Luckily, I have weather on my side, and I know that some of us don't, but I think that we are all in accord that the ultimate goal is cardio fitness!!

Tonight at around 8:00 Mr.Michael(my whippet- midsize greyhound) and I will go for our second jogging/walking session on our way to being perfect runners! =) Any tricks for holding a CD player? I tried to stick it in my sports bra, but it started to go under the bottom of it, and holding it and Mr. Michael's leash was too much..
No, no tricks...until my daughter gives me her IPOD (she just got a shuffle) I'm stuck in the technical darkages and I STILL run with a "walkman" clipped to me.  I haven't attempted a cd player.  Sounds bulky... :) I will be up at 5:45 am and out in the cold to go for 30 minutes on MY way BACK to 3 miles - DAY one is always the hardest!  I am determined to make this the LAST time I have to "get back on track"!  Enjoy your time with Mr. Michael!
ohmyikc.....it has been over 4 years since I would say I was athletic....prior to starting the running program I had been powerwalking for a couple months but that just did not kick the fat burners in....the running program starts off nice and slow, I actually found out about the program on the womens health site...this woman had lost 78lbs. in under a year......I was like okay I need her secret...she too was not going to do the starvation thing....her plan was the running program...keep in mind if someone over 200lbs can start this plan without injury it is safe. She now runs marathons and continues to eat...I look foward to being able to run longer....you get a really good high...and it is not illegal or will it end up as cottage cheese on my thighs.
Cool goofy, we are starting off on the same page =)

Txgirl- Awesome! Mr Michael and I will have a blast i'm sure!!!
Thanks! Will check in tomorrow!
Wow!  I am in luck.   :)

Today I researched, and decided to do the couch-to-5K starting tonight!  It's great to find others doing the same thing to help keep me motovated.

I am a walker, but haven't really jogged since hmmmm.....years ago.
abcsmom!! Welcome!! =) Tonight is my second night on the program.. i only got through 15 minutes, so i will probably end up doing week 1 twice :) I'm really tall, so I don't want to injure myself learning to run! Doesn't this program sound really neat?! I think it just might work (which would be a miracle!!!)

UPDATE-> I did do the program tonight for all of you =) I got through 15 minutes of it!! Yay!! Before I know it i'm going to be entering 5K's.. I can't wait!!!

How Did Everyone Do Last Night?!?!?
Just wanted to let everyone know that I made it through the first time.  I think it's going to be great!!  (and challenging!)  Going to hit the sack now....catcha tomorrow.
