Running for chocolate, good or bad?

Quote  |  Reply

I've been running a lot lately to be able to fit sweets into my menu (I never go above maintenance and I log *everything*).

I think I'm actually sick of chocolate.

I've been eating lots of good and healthy things (A- on most days), but i've also been stuffing myself full of chocolate and nuts and raisins...

Is that bad for me?

Running for health benefits is good.

Running for chocolate?? I dunno.Undecided But it sounds like a good title for a movie!

I have a small square of 85% dark chocolate every day. It's full of antioxidants and once you get used to the taste, you could never eat another piece of milk chocolate again, it becomes too sweet.

I recently discovered dark chocolate covered espresso beans at the health food store. Those are seriously addictive!

The nuts and raisins are good for you in moderation, they are also full of fat or sugar. If you're trying to maintain, the sugar can seriously sneak up on you. Sugar is my personal enemy.

Balance is the key. Good luck!

I've been trading miles for goodies for 2 years now, counting both, and have been maintaining just fine.

It doesn't give you a bodybuilder physique, though.

lol, trading miles for goodies.  I'm not laughing at you, its just funny.  At least its a healthy alternative to just giving in.

I know I don't have the motivation to do something like that, so I commend you both.

No idea how reasonable or sane it is, but I will do the same on occasions.

If I`m craving some ice cream I will cycle to a far away store to get it. Just laying there like a couch potato and stuffing my face hardly makes the experience enjoyable for me. I`m most comfortable when I keep active, though I`m not overruling the possibility that on a subconscious level it also has something to do with guilt issues, which may be still there from back when I was dieting.

I like this...How far away is Pizza?

Oh dear, I wouldn`t want to go there. xD (pun intended)

I make my own tiny pizzas now, crust out of 2-3 servings worth of whole wheat flour, baked or microwaved (if I feel extra lazy), topped off with generous amounts of veggies, some lean meat, a bit of extra strong flavoured cheese and spicy tomato sauce. The end result rather resembles a big mound of veggies on a pancake instead, but it`s oh, so delicious! (and super healthy and low cal so I don`t feel the need to 'exercise it off' xD) Bonus: ready in less time than it takes my favourite pizza place to deliver.

(sorry for the ramble ^^;)

I've been riding my bicycle for beer for almost 30 years now, it works for me.

Edit:  I don't mean that I ride to the Pub, I mean I ride to offset the calories.

I think instead of running FOR goodies like  the rest of you..

I seem to be constantly running AWAY from them. They always find me *sigh*

Well, it's getting on 6AM here.  Time to put on the birkis and walk a couple miles to pick up the mail and a biscotti.  With a cup of good strong black coffee.

Unfortunately, it's literally 50 yards away!  Should I be happy or sad?

I understand. I've been avoiding chocolate but the other day I just had to have it...so I ran extra that evening. Today my co-workers bought me a cake. I had a piece and of course I know I will want another small piece tonight. It's my b-day so I should be allowed to splurge right??? Well, I know I will busting my butt off tonight. LOL!

*sigh* I remember the days where I didn't care how many calories or what I ate. *sigh*

I think it's a great idea! You get chocolate AND you get all fit and toned from the running. Sounds like win to me.

Everything in moderation! Eating a sweet, once in a while, having a cocktail, or a few [as I did last night ;)], taking that chip and piling on the gaucamole, etc..it's ALL GOOD! I find that feeling deprived leads one to binging.  Some people, actually many, have found great success in having a cheat day.  I tell all my clients to allow for one. It does not mean to binge and go crazy all day long but if it's that garlic bread you want to eat with your spaghetti - in other words- carb overload- and/or a slice of cheesecake...go ahead! Life is to be lived! It is better lived in good health, [proper diet and exercise] with loving family and fun and caring friends.

Exercising to eat [no matter what it is] will eventually make you hate to exercise! You'll find it a chore you have to do to enjoy your life.  Exercise needs to be as joyful as eating that chocolate! [Well....close to it...  ;) ]
