Running MY first 5K - what was YOUR first time? UPDATE!
Hi everyone! Well, I did it! I signed up for my first 5K which is Sept. 6. I am curious to hear from others out there what is a good time to run it? 30 min, 36 min, 42 min? Tell me how fast you went your first time!![]()
UPDATE: Well I ran my first 5K this morning! In the freakin' rain! Anyway, I had a blast and definately will be signing up for more! Woo-hoo! So...my time? I did it in 32 min. 20 sec. My goals were to do it under 35 min and to not walk at all - and I made them both! Yay me!
I updated my original post, see how I did!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! You did great!
I'm running my first one next Saturday! I'm excited and S-C-A-R-E-D!
Don't be scared! You'll love it! Please let me know how you did!
I did the Gasparilla 5k in my home town of Tampa this morning and finished in 36:31! Not a stellar time by any stretch of the imagination, but could not wipe the smile off my face when I crossed the finish line! It felt great!
BTW, the Gasparilla is a great race for beginners! There were crowds of people out cheering on total strangers! The atmosphere was so supportive and made me proud to live here. I would highly recommend it.
Last year at this time, I had just gotten over pneumonia and was in terrible shape. I started working out mid-October, 4-5 times a week. When I first started, I could not run a full mile. I would alternate running and walking each quarter mile on the treadmill. It was extremely difficult for me.
Today, 4 and half months later... I just ran the whole thing at a pace of about 11:40 a mile! Again, I know this is not earth shatteringly good for most people, but for me it is!
Also, I've lost about 15 pounds since I started running and working out and playing tennis a few times a week. I feel great, and I hope and intend never to go back to my couch potato ways. Today I decided that I want to do the Gasparilla 15k next year...
Thanks so much for posting this question. It's been so enlightening and insprining to read everything everyone has written!
Congratulations Renee!
My first 5k was about 8 years ago, and I finished in 44 minutes. I was about 65 pounds heavier than I am now.
The last one I ran was in the fall of 2007, and I came in at 29:50! :)
Keep at it! Try not to get too wrapped up in times. I did for a while, and it pretty much destroyed any joy I had in running. Now I just go out and do it, and sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised!
I started running a few months ago. I am running my first 5K race in about a week. I've been running 5K every morning for about 20 days now my best time so far has been 34min. I weigh 270lbs. Runner's knee is going on but I'm icing it after every run and it's getting better. Love the process!![]()
27:22 was my time, not chip timed though, so I started at the back of the pack. So probably take a few seconds off. 5Ks are fun!
GREAT JOB!
Ran my first ever 5k race this morning... my time: 27:07!!! Yayy!!!
I'm so proud of myself. :) But i wish I could have shaved off 8 seconds, it would have been so cool to have been in the 26's.
