Irothell---you'll probably read this...thanks for the previous post....
Just want to know if any pregnant mothers have knee pain when they run? I had knee pain before pregnancy...and where a Cho...but I am afraid the further along I get the pain will get worse with the weight of the baby.
I had a lot of joint pain when I ws pregnant. My doctor said it was because of a hormone that is released to loosen up your joints, this makes them very prone to injury and soreness. Its supposed to help your pelvis loosen up for birth but it affects every joint in your body. She recommended to me not to do anything that causes any pain or discomfort and stick to low impact excercises, otherwise it can cause severe injuries that would still be there after pregnancy.
I dealt with some knee pain back in August before I ran the Disneyland half. I got through the run and then took 2-3 weeks off of running and did physical therapy. I've kept doing some of the exercises that my PT gave me to strengthen the muscles that support the knee and I haven't had any pain since, despite the fact that I'm running with an exta 15 pounds on me now!
I do know that your body produces relaxin (I think that's it) when you're pregnant, though I think you notice it more in the later stages of pregnancy. Have you talked to your doctor about the knee pain? Do you have any PT type exercises that you're doing? Definitely try icing when you're feeling pain and maybe take some time off and cross train. I know that biking is supposed to stregthen muscles that running does not.
I would definitely stop if you're feeling pain, but I know that can be hard for those of us who love running!
