running long after hills workout------- cross country !!!

Quote  |  Reply

yeah, so my team has hills or sprint practies 2-3 times a week...

so its not our usualy long distance runs, and i'm guessing these are designed to make us FASTERRRR. so we usually do about 5-6 miles of these

but after these, i run on my own at a distance pace for another 1-3 miles

would this prevent me from getting faster?

My question to you would be:  what are you trying to accomplish by adding 1-3 miles.   We do hills to build strength.  We do sprints to increase our lactate threshold.  If you are using it as a cool down, then I would think its OK.  If you are trying to build endurance, then I think doing both in one day is not a good idea.

The biggest negative of adding on 1-3 miles would be how it affects your ability to train the next day...

Beware the junk miles....

hmm we did a 1 mile cool down.... but i had lots more energy left and felt like running more. so i just ran 2.6 miles on my own.

besides affecting training for the next day, would there be any other negatives?

like would it hinder my speed/strength/endurance training?

i dont mind junk miles honestly as long as i feel fine afterwards XD

thanks wesmckean- you seem to know alot about running...

You are young.  You can get away with stuff I can't  Smile
