Running in the morning?

Quote  |  Reply

Hello everyone,

Here's the deal: I want to incorporate some 1 hour running sessions (4-5 times a week) early in the morning before work.

I'm already doing 30-60min of elliptical machine at gym after work but i'd rather use that time to start some "serious" body-building, besides i've been doing that routine for almost a year so i think its time to try something new while i'm motivated (and i'll get to enjoy the sunrise and some fresh air :p ).

So is anyone here doing the same? If so, how do you feel for the rest of the day? Do you feel tired afterwards (i have a boring desk job in which it's so easy to fall asleep...)?

Well, if you start running every morning, are you planning on lifting every day after work?

It seems to be better for beginners to lifting to do a full-body workout 2-3 days per week rather than every day.  If you're doing that then you can still do elliptical, of some other form of aerobic cardio if you want on non-lifting days.

Personally, I don't do well working out in the mornings.  It messes up my blood sugar and makes me cranky (and ravenous) the rest of the day.  I do much better and (stronger!!) when I work out later in the day.

Of course other people work ot in the morning and feel invigorated and ready to tacke the day... so really it depends on you.

I adore running in the morning! I guess I am the opposite of karozel. In my opinion, morning is the very best time to run (especially in the summer!) because the cool weather keeps you running briskly to keep warm and the sun doesn't melt you. While my legs can be sore after a run, I'm never psychologically tired-- always very energized. Good luck!

i've just started running in the morning (not too early yet, because i haven't started the new job).  i'm an early riser, so that's not a concern, but i was worried about running before breakfast.  i can't run on a full stomach, so at 6am, before breakfast is really the only option, and i was afraid i wouldn't have the energy.  but - it's fine!  i don't even think about it.

i'm hungry afterwards, though!

have yet to see how i'll feel after a run and an 8-hour work day, though.

I love running in the morning. My day just always seems to go better on days when I run first thing.

I usually eat a banana before my run. After my run I'll eat some carbs and protein.
