Running in Portland
Do you run in Portland?
What is your favorite trail or course?
Why?
How often do you run?
**************
I do run. I usually run Forest Park and my favorite part is either from Germantown road to the end of Wildwood (towards Newton). But it can be remote so I generally only run it on a Saturday morning or with another person. I love Forest Park even though the trails can be messy in the winter but I can get out there and be around nature. I run there about 3 or 4 times per week.
Anyone else?
I don't run outside much, maybe once a week, but when I do, I like to run downtown near the waterfront. I usually start at the fountain near the Hawthorne bridge and then run up the west side of the river and back down the east side. Sometimes the walkways on the west side are a little crowded, but the view of the river is always very nice. Depending on which bridge you go over, you can adjust your run from 2-4 miles. I enjoy the variety in the route as well as having milestones to mark my progress.
Well to be honest I really don't run much at all anymore, but back when I was running, everyday mind you, my favorite spot was Tryon Park. It's up my Lewis and Clark College, and not long ago when I was still the Law school literally backs up to it so it was great.
For me it was a perfect spot to run because in the winter/rain all the trees block some of the drops, likewise with the sun in the summer time. Not only that you can take the paved path (which has some hills and twists and turns) or you can take any of the other numerous dirt paths (but I'm a little clumsy and when it comes to running I would not do well with tree roots and such).
Anyways it's a great place to run and I blame the fact that I live on the otherside of town for my not running...it's not true but it's definitely not the same without my Tryon.
Hope it helps.
LOL I don't run unless I'm being chased! That's why I probably on here
I do love all of the parks we have in the area, love Tryon a lot as well as Mary S Young. What other places to you recommend? How are the marathons going?
Does anyone belong to any run groups? Red Lizards, Nike, lululemon? I've started to meet some runners, which keeps me motivated - however, I have to baby my knee so I might join a walking group. Hey it would be a great way to meet like minded people at the very least!
I just trained and ran an 8K with a group organized by Title Nine Clothing (they are in the Pearl District). They are organizing a training for a 1/2 Marathon, this will start in January.
The women in the group are really great and all levels. We are really relaxed and if you have knee problems, the coaches (who are experienced runners and all volunteers!) are fantastic at designing a run that's right for you.
Another women's group that is more experienced, serious runners is Team Athena. I know they meet at the Lincoln High track on Wednesdays. I'm working up to running with them :)
Hi! I run quite a bit, but mostly just on roads around my neighborhood! I have a group of runners (about 10-12 of us on a really busy day), but it's not a formal group. Just friends and neighbors...but they do keep me motivated! We run 4-5 days per week, anywhere from 5-10 miles.
I live in NW Portland and so I tend to utilize the routes that I can access from my front door. I like to head up through MaCleay Park and into Forest Park, or down through NW to Waterfront Park and run around that. I trained for and ran the Portland Marathon this year and my longer runs usually wound around Waterfront Park and on into the Sellwood Corridor. I also would park near the Highway 30 side of the St. John's Bridge and run over that, down Willamette and to Peninsula Park. The nice thing about that run is I'd have a water stop (usually in a park) every 3 or 4 miles (along with a bathroom), and my last mile was spent crossing back over the St. John's Bridge (which I love).
I don't run as much now because my heel spur really flared up with all the training (I was 30 pounds overweight going into the marathon... now I am 40 pounds overweight... ugh) - maybe once a week until I get my heel under control. And lose the 40 pounds, to make it easier on my heel.
I haven't even tried Tryron, that sounds like fun!
