running question?
Okay so I have been a very bad girl and have not done ANY exercise since May when the kids got out of school, but they start back Monday and I am going to start back to working out. Well I have been watching they olympics and I have noticed how great the runners look. I want to look like that. So I began thinking instead of making me a complicated work-out. I would just run. Of course i am going to have to work my way up to it. I am going to use the Learn to Run program on here. Let me get to my question. My question is does anyone know if runners do any kind of exercise other than running? If so what kind.
I am a runner and I also do sit ups and pushups after a run. I run three times a week 5k. Also it's good to do some uphill hiking once a week, nothing to hard.
Also keep in mind that running will not give instant results, you will probably have to run 3 times a week for at least six months before you look like like they do on t.v.
I've been doing the couch-to-5K program. On alternate days, I lift weights. Strength training is an important addition to any exercise program, imo.
I read in Shape or Fitness or Women's Health (lol) that the Olympic runners...and any Olympiads for that matter, do a complete and consistent strength training program in addition to their cardio, just like we should be doin! :)
